On Tuesday, October 13, 2026, third-grade parents and family members at West Hazleton Elementary/Middle School participated in a special Literacy and Art Program centered on the novel Third Grade Angels. Students and their families made meaningful connections between the story and their own lives, reflecting on the importance of perseverance, kindness, and personal growth. Following the literacy activity, participants expressed their aspirations through art by creating “Reach for the Stars” paintings. Each painting symbolized the students' commitment to achieving their literacy goals and reaching their full potential as readers and learners. The event provided a wonderful opportunity for families to engage in learning together while celebrating creativity, literacy, and student success.

Fourth and fifth grade students and their families enjoyed and engaging and educational presentation by Joe Romano, who combined science and magic to create an unforgettable learning experience.

On Tuesday, September 14, 2026, all first grade students and their families were treated to a Build A Bear literacy program. All Students received a Build A Bear that will serve as their reading companion along with a book to add to their home library. This program was sponsored by Title 1.

Successful Alumnus Gives Back to West Hazleton Elementary

On September 18, former West Hazleton Elementary student and owner of AM Auto Plus, LLC, Aaron McGeehan, generously donated and personally delivered 25 pizzas for the school's faculty and staff.
During his visit, Aaron reflected on his time at West Hazleton and credited teachers, including Mrs. Cindi Salnicky and other staff members who continue to serve the school today, for their support, patience, and dedication. He shared stories of how Mrs. Salnicky, along with many other educators, went above and beyond to serve as positive role models and mentors. Aaron spoke fondly of the encouragement he received as a student and how the care and commitment of his teachers helped him overcome challenges and stay focused on achieving his goals.
West Hazleton Elementary extends its sincere appreciation to Aaron McGeehan for his generosity and to Dante and the staff of Alta Pizzeria for preparing 25 pizzas and helping make this special donation possible.

Staff vs. Student basketball game 2025

West Hazleton Elementary/Middle School recently held a fundraiser to raise money for our PTA and to get students excited for a wonderful event—the faculty vs. student basketball game.

Students had the opportunity to purchase blue or gold tattoos, with all the money raised going to the PTA. The PTA helps fund field trips and other events for our students.

To build excitement for the game, West Hazleton hosted a pep rally that energized the students in anticipation of the evening’s event.

On Tuesday, March 15th, the West Hazleton gymnasium was packed wall-to-wall for the much-anticipated game, where the middle school boys and girls faced off against the faculty. The faculty came out on top, making it a fun and memorable evening for students, parents, families, and staff alike.

A big thank you to everyone who donated food and their time to make this event a success!

March is Music in Our Schools Month. The Hazleton Area School District held a Band MIOSM Concert on Tuesday, March 18th at HAHS. Band students from all the schools in Hazleton gathered and held a festival. This featured students in grades 4-12. They practiced the music all day and at night put on a concert for family and friends. We are proud of them for their hard work and dedication for playing an instrument! Congratulations!
