A bit of Statehood quarrels and fist fight trivia from the 1800’s

Although the postal address is Island Park today. It was West Yellowstone Montana, for more years than Idaho. This area really belonged to Montana years ago and West Yellowstone was the postal address. The boundaries moved to encompass the valley along Henry’s Lake due to a geographical dispute and the division of Hebegen Lake and Henrys by Black Mountain, the mountain in front of the Lodge. The surveyors for the two states eventually gave this part to Idaho and Kept Hebegen Lake in Montana. The vast majority of people living North of Henry’s lake even today consider where we sit”Montana. Tell anyone there including ranchers in the valley yhis is Idaho and its fighting words and a very heated discussion.
Here was a map that that didn’t even have Henry’s on the Idaho side due to the geographical dispute!
Where the bucking horse was the actual Montana border and the actual entrance to Island Park off of the Targhee Pass. Henry’s Lake was originally Montana and for many of its early homesteaders and settlers it still is considered Montana.

Right down the road towards Island Park. The Yogi crowd does more to harm these bears than legalized hunting would. Multiple bears are euthanized due to feeding Yogi when they become a problem for the Disney crowd.

The Disney crowd the most dangerous group of people to wildlife worldwide!

On June 26, Idaho Fish and Game, in cooperation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, euthanized an adult male grizzly after it had become food-conditio

Stability is improving slowly in the Southern Madison and Southern Gallatin Ranges and the mountains around West Yellowstone. Weak layers buried 1-3 feet deep make human-triggered persistent slab avalanches likely on steep slopes. Without fresh snow, obvious signs of instability, such as collapsing and shooting cracks, will decrease. For now, seek out great powder turns and ride in low-angle terrain, avoiding slopes steeper than 30 degrees. The danger is CONSIDERABLE.

The danger is MODERATE across the rest of the forecast area due to persistent weak layers in the snowpack in Island Park and Cooke City and slabs of wind-drifted snow in the mountains around Bozeman and Big Sky. Lean on careful terrain evaluation to reduce the chances of triggering a slide and the consequences if one occurs.
