The Presque Isle River does not so much flow to Lake Superior as fight its way there, and this is the proof. 🌊

Down in the western end of the Porcupine Mountains, in Gogebic County, the river runs over ancient lava rock that it has spent thousands of years carving into bowls, chutes and potholes like these. Stand on the boardwalk and you can watch the water drill stone in slow motion. 🪨

Three named waterfalls sit along this same stretch, but it is the sculpted rock between them that stops most people in their tracks. 🍂

Ready to see the fall colors from the top of our local ski hill?

Here are the chairlift dates for 2026:

• September 26–27
• October 3–4
• October 10–11

Visit the Porcupine Mountains Winter Sports Complex from 10 AM–4:30 PM EST to check out a panoramic view of Lake Superior with autumn hues in the foreground.

This experience costs $10 per person, and children 10 & under are free! You can purchase your tickets at the Ski Chalet Ticket Office.
