On November 27 and 28, Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown host Foods and Feasts of Colonial Virginia, showing how early Virginians cooked and ate. Then December brings Grand Illumination on the 5th, 12th, and 19th. If you want to see Williamsburg dressed for the season, now is the time to pick your weekend.

Fall color in Williamsburg usually peaks from late October into early November, so now is the time to plan that leaf-peeping weekend. A few favorites near the inn: a slow drive along the Colonial Parkway, the trails at York River State Park, and the formal gardens at the Governor's Palace framed by maples and beech trees turning red and gold. Spend the day outside, then come back for a warm room and breakfast in the morning.

One of our favorite fall trips from the inn is a Saturday morning at Yorktown's riverfront. This weekend, October 10 and 11, Yorktown Market Days hosts its Fall Festival at Riverwalk Landing with 40+ vendors selling pumpkins, mums, kettle corn, caramel apples, and fall art. There's also a hay maze and a petting zoo for kids. This is still one of the easiest fall outings near Williamsburg.
