Our Grotto garden is usually a tranquil escape… but today, it’s strictly for the ghouls! It turns out even the local skeletons and eight-legged visitors know that La Posada is the place to hang out this Halloween. They’ve taken over the walls and made themselves right at home.

As many of our longtime followers know, Special Projects Manager Dan Lutzick in an integral part of La Posada Hotel. He also a talented artist. His work is currently featured in our Winslow Studio Artists Gallery at Affeldt Mion Museum. And now... there is a book documenting Dan Lutzick's evolution as an artist, his move to Winslow and work at La Posada, and the creation of his extraordinary Snowdrift Art Space. You never know what you'll see outside of La Posada! This wonderful carriage drawn by Forest, an eight year old palomino Morgan horse, is regularly seen in downtown Flagstaff, giving carriage tours via Merry-Go-Round Carriage Rides. What a fun site to see them roaming around Winslow! We thank Mary Ann Mudd and Forest for gracing the roundabout in front of La Posada. (And no... they did not travel via carriage from Flagstaff to Winslow). You can find more about their carriage service via the link in the comments.

A couple of weeks ago we posted a story about a donation of 30 boxes of art books the Affeldt Mion Museum (AMM) received from the Laguna Art Museum in California. Last week the crew at AMM started moving bookcases into the museum's entry gallery to hold the book collection and to create a reading room for museum visitors. The display cases that were removed from the entry gallery found a new life in the La Posada Bookstore where they will display collections of Native American carvings and pottery for sale.

Fall is here, and the little quince grove to the north of La Posada's ballroom is bursting with the fragrant yellow fruit. The garden crew has been harvesting the fruit and passed off a few crates of quince to Turquoise Room Sous Chef Justine. Justine reports that these quince will find their way into the restaurants famous Fred Harvey inspired pies.

In our Fall newsletter, we talked a bit about a future project. In August, we purchased eight tiny homes and are currently collaborating with the city to explore their best use. One concept in the ideation stage is a bungalow-style courtyard community—tentatively dubbed "La Posadaville." Saturday afternoon, the tiny homes made their way across town (and across the famous corner) and arrived at La Posada!

The final plan is not yet set in stone, but Allan has been exploring several design options, including a potential layout east of the museum within the walled enclosure. As currently envisioned, each home would feature a private yard, a shared central commons, and perimeter parking—echoing historic community models while allowing for faster permitting and construction. More to come as we refine the plan!

We were thrilled to host DRIVE Electric Arizona Saturday afternoon as 16 electric vehicles caravanned up from the Valley to celebrate their Northern Arizona chapter launch.

The group gathered for lunch at The Turquoise Room before hosting an EV showcase, featuring rare and standout models like the Lucid Gravity and the brand-new BMW iX3 (the 2026 World Car of the Year!).

For this Route 66 100th anniversary, DRIVE Electric AZ said it best: "The best way to preserve that legacy is not simply to look backward. It is to make sure the road remains relevant, accessible, and economically important for the next generation of travelers."

Thank you DRIVE Electric Arizona for choosing La Posada to launch your new chapter and for bringing such a great group along the Mother Road! (And yes... they, of course, stood on the corner.)

Over the last few weeks the crew has been working on a project on our east grounds. They are enclosing the covered car parking on the east grounds near the Turquoise Room kitchen dock area. The three enclosures created by this project will create receiving rooms for merchandise and project materials, and will create a dedicated workshop for both the hotel and museum. The workshop will be of particular value for the restoration of the Lamy 502 Pleasure Dome Observation railcar which is owned by the Winslow Arts Trust and on display to the east of the Affeldt Mion Museum.
