I've had a few people ask what I decided to go with for rod holders on the new boat.

My last boat had RAM Mounts rod holders and they never let me down, so I decided to stick with what works. On this boat, I mounted the same holders but added extensions to the first two so I can comfortably run 8 rods without any issues.

Since these also double as my dead-stick rod holders, I wanted something that keeps the rods more inside the boat. That's one of the reasons I stayed away from tube-style holders. With tube holders, you typically have to pull the rod up and out on the outside of the boat, which leaves a little more room for error and the possibility of a dropped rod.

Let's see your setups! Drop some pictures in the comments and tell us what rod holder system you run, why you chose it, and what you like (or dislike) about it.

Went down to Castle Rock today with Jim and Mick. They wanted to learn how to break down the lake. Both guys attended a The Bighorn Store seminar I was a speaker at a couple years ago and thought I'd be the perfect guide to take them out because I wasn't just going to hit waypoints. We fished a ton of areas today and only went to two spots that I've fished in the past.

We covered fish movements and locations as well as how to read and dial in side imaging and 2D chirp sonar on Humminbird electronics.

We caught a ton of fish today. Only a couple areas were fruitless. I would drive around until I saw fish in areas that I thought looked like walleyes and stop. If no bites within 5 minutes, we would move on to the next area.

At one spot, Mick caught 4 walleyes in a row and I had 5 walleyes in a row myself. We caught over 30 walleyes today with 4 legals. One crappie and a bunch of perch, 5 smallies, a few pike and of course some drum. All fish caught casting crawlers or minnows. Depth was all over the place. Some fish were in 3 fow and others were as deep as 22 fow and everywhere in between. Water temps ranged from 69 to 72 degrees.

I'm booked solid through June but I do have openings in July! July and August is when I start to incorporate more panfish into the mix. If you want to catch some giant gills and crappies on Petenwell I'm your guy!

Lots of quality eaters caught today on my new St. Croix Rods 6'6" medium light fast action Legend Tournament Walleye rod. This is one of the most sensitive rods in the line up! Everything released to fight another day!

What a great day on the water! Started the first half of the day with Ron and Mike doing a little jigging and a little trolling. We caught a bunch of shorts, legals, crappie, white bass and drum.

This afternoon I went out solo to check other areas of the lake nobody is targeting and last year never really held any amounts of fish. They were definitely there this afternoon! I landed another 10 legals and a bunch of shorts on a huge variety of baits. It really didn't matter what you casted as long as your bait landed in the water! πŸ˜† Water temp was 72 when I left at 2:00.

Had a total of 15 legal walleyes and a pile of shorts. Everything was released today!

Crazy small world moment in the fishing industry! 🎣
A couple months ago I connected with Rob from Gators & Gold Fishing Charters up in Northern Alberta, Canada. We’ve been talking boats and fishing ever since.

Come to find out, we BOTH ordered brand new Crestliner 1850 Fish Hawks at almost the exact same time.

But here’s where it gets even cooler…
Rob is a Canadian Army veteran, just like I’m a U.S. Army veteran. πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

And somehow, our boat serial numbers ended up only THREE numbers apart! 😳
That means our boats were very likely sitting side-by-side on the production line at the factory.
Moments like this remind me how small the fishing community really is.

Different countries, different waters, same passion.

Small world. Big water. 🎣

Brandon Sibert and I took my new boat out today to get some more break-in time completed and do a little fishing. We worked dang near the entire lake. East, west, north, and south. Water temps were in the low 60s in some places and went up close to 70 later in the day. Rapala Crush City plastics caught all but two fish. One other fish on a hard body bait and another on a chub. Everything caught jigging on shallow shelves and flats. Side imaging was the key to finding them. We ended with a pile of shorts, a two person limit worth of legals, and a 26.25" in slot. All fish released.
