BREAKING: Just 25% of US non-homeowners expect to buy a home within the next 5 years, the lowest reading since Gallup first asked the question in 2013.

This is down from 30% in 2025 and from 49% in 2017.

At the same time, 45% of non-homeowners say they do not expect to buy a home in the foreseeable future, up from 28% in 2013.

This shift is most pronounced among younger Americans, with only 29% of non-homeowners aged 18-34 expecting to buy within 5 years, down from 57% in 2013-2015.

US homeownership is increasingly out of reach.
