“There is almost no one left in the village doing this craft anymore. I keep holding on to it, hoping future generations will still be able to imagine a village that was once renowned across the country.” - shared by Artisan Phạm Công Khai.

For more than four centuries, Sình Village’s Folk Paintings have reflected the spiritual beliefs, rituals, and cultural identity of Huế. Yet today, as modern printing technology replaces traditional methods, this centuries-old craft is slowly fading away.

As one of only two remaining artisans dedicated to preserving this heritage, artisan Công Khai continues carving, printing, and sharing the stories behind every painting. And what brings him the greatest joy is seeing young people visit, learn, and experience the craft firsthand - proof that these traditions can still inspire future generations.

“Trong làng giờ gần như không còn ai làm nghề này nữa. Tôi vẫn cố gắng giữ lấy, để mai sau người ta còn hình dung được về một làng nghề từng nổi tiếng khắp cả nước.” — chia sẻ bởi nghệ nhân Phạm Công Khai. Suốt hơn bốn thế kỷ, tranh làng Sình đã gắn liền với đời sống tín ngưỡng của người dân xứ Huế. Thế nhưng, trước đời sống hiện đại và công nghệ in tiên tiến, nghề làm tranh dân gian này đang dần mai một.

Là một trong hai người cuối cùng còn gắn bó với nghề, nghệ nhân Phạm Công Khai vẫn miệt mài khắc ván, in tranh và gìn giữ những câu chuyện được truyền qua nhiều thế hệ. Với ông, niềm vui lớn nhất là thấy ngày càng nhiều bạn trẻ tìm đến để tìm hiểu và trải nghiệm, như một cách để những giá trị truyền thống tiếp tục được lưu giữ và lan tỏa.

Từ bao đời nay, tranh Làng Sình đã hiện diện trong đời sống tín ngưỡng của người dân xứ Huế, trở thành một phần không thể thiếu trong các nghi lễ thờ cúng và sinh hoạt tâm linh.
Mỗi bức tranh được in từ những ván khắc gỗ thủ công không chỉ mang giá trị nghệ thuật, mà còn gửi gắm những ước nguyện về bình an, sức khỏe và may mắn. Qua từng nét vẽ, người xem có thể cảm nhận được niềm tin, sự thành kính và mối gắn kết bền chặt giữa con người với tổ tiên, với cội nguồn văn hóa của mình.

Suốt hàng trăm năm, tranh làng Sình đã hiện diện trong đời sống tín ngưỡng của người dân xứ Huế. Từ những bản khắc gỗ thủ công đến những gam màu mộc mạc, mỗi bức tranh đều mang theo câu chuyện về niềm tin, phong tục và những giá trị văn hóa được lưu truyền qua nhiều thế hệ.

Ngày nay, nghệ nhân Phạm Công Khai – một trong hai người còn lại đang gìn giữ dòng tranh dân gian này – vẫn miệt mài bên những bản khắc gỗ và sắc màu truyền thống. Bằng đôi bàn tay khéo léo và tình yêu dành cho nghề, ông tiếp tục nối dài hành trình của một di sản đã tồn tại qua nhiều thế kỷ.
