What to do in Phong Nha?
1. Phong Nha Botanical Garden
The Phong Nha Botanical Garden is a nature conservation area located inside Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park, Quang Binh Province.
The garden sits at Km 9 on Road 20 – Quyet Thang, about 12 km from the Phong Nha tourism center and around 45–50 km from D**g Hoi City.
Initially covering an area of 41.8 hectares, it has since expanded to approximately 77.1 hectares.
It is considered a “sample forest” — a miniature representation of tropical rainforest ecosystems, limestone forest ecosystems, and typical habitats of the entire Phong Nha – Ke Bang region.
🌱 Biodiversity & Conservation Value
The Phong Nha Botanical Garden plays a crucial role in biodiversity conservation:
It preserves 513 vascular plant species, belonging to 327 genera and 122 families — including several rare, endangered, native, and endemic species.
Many species provide timber, medicinal uses, fruits, or ornamental value, reflecting the deep connection between local people and natural resources.
The garden combines both in-situ (protecting natural forest) and ex-situ (collecting, replanting, and preserving species) conservation methods.
In addition to flora, the forest is home to diverse wildlife — birds, small mammals, and other species that contribute to the rich tropical ecosystem.
Thanks to these features, the Botanical Garden serves not only as a tourist attraction but also as a living museum, supporting gene preservation, scientific research, forest restoration, and environmental education.
