Sapa rice terraces at the end of harvest season.

Every year the valley changes from green to gold, and then little by little the rice disappears as local families bring the harvest home.

These terraces are not only a beautiful view for visitors. They are the fields where our families have worked for generations.

Another rice season is coming to an end in Sapa.

Every year around this time, our Hmong family begins preparing the new rice.

Today, my younger sister and I went back to our mother’s home. We harvested the first rice, cleaned and sorted it, then roasted it slowly over the fire.

It is a lot of work, but this is something our family has done for generations.

Today is only the preparation. The special day is still to come.

I will share the next part with you soon.

Two very special guests came to visit us from Mauritius 🇲🇺

I had to look at the map because I realized how far away their home is a small island in the Indian Ocean!

One of the things I love about welcoming travellers to our home in Sapa is meeting people from places I have never been to. I can share a little about my Hmong culture and life in Sapa, and at the same time I get to learn about their country, culture and way of life.

Thank you both for travelling such a long way and spending time with us. It was really lovely meeting you.

Have you ever met someone from Mauritius? Or have you been there before?

Tell me about it I would love to learn more about this beautiful little island.

A happy day at Indigo Snail.

My niece connected this wonderful group from Malaysia with our homestay. What made me happiest was seeing family, friends and neighbors coming together, sharing work and sharing opportunities.

For me, business is not only about ourselves. When we have an opportunity, we can also share it with the people around us.
Thank you to our guests from Malaysia for spending this happy time with our family.

Hope to see you again one day in Sapa.

Last week I spent three days trekking with two wonderful guests.
We walked through the rice terraces, small Hmong villages around Ta Van, and through the bamboo forest.

They also spent time with us learning Hmong batik and indigo dyeing. It was their first time trying some of these traditional skills, and we laughed a lot together.
After three days of walking, eating, talking and sharing our lives, they did not feel like guests anymore. This is one of the things I love most about my work.

Thank you for walking with me, for being curious about our culture, and for supporting local Hmong people.
I hope to see you again one day in Sapa.
