Happy Thanksgiving! We hope you're all enjoying a great holiday weekend full of good food and good company.

We're still up at Haskins, working away at the cabin build and taking advantage of every day that we possibly can before the weather forces us out.

We still have a VERY long list of things to do here yet but we wanted to take a quick minute to express just how grateful we are to be where we're at, since that's what Thanksgiving is all about!

The past 16+ months have been some of the most challenging we've ever faced and we would not be where we are without the support of everyone who has helped out, checked in, or offered kind words and encouragement when we needed it the most.

Special thank-yous go out to:

⚒️ Ron, Melanie, Bill, Darren, and Don for taking time to come lend a hand. Each one of you came up here ready to work and helped keep us motivated with your fresh energy.

🛩️ The team at the float base for going above and beyond to make sure everything and everyone got where they needed to be. And, of course, for loading and unloading thousands of pounds of lumber, gear, supplies, appliances, and a 400-lb wood stove.

✅ Everyone who picked up supplies, accepted parcels, cut our grass back home, reminded us to eat, texted, called, acted as cheerleaders, and helped keep things going in all the ways.

🎣 And, of course, a big thank you to all of our guests for sticking with us through this. Knowing that so many of you can't wait to get back up here and enjoy this place again helps remind us what it's all for.

We'll likely be wrapping up the season here within the next couple of weeks (Mother Nature willing). After that, we will need just a bit of time to assess where things are at, catch our breath, and make a game plan for 2027.

Keep an eye out for announcements on our reopening plans in the coming weeks!

The days have been long but the weeks have been short... and somehow we're already past the middle of August!

We thought we were long overdue for sharing an update on the rebuild so here are some progress pics from our season so far.

This has been a huge undertaking for the two of us to tackle and, while we of course always wish we were a little further ahead, we are very happy with the progress we've been able to make with limited time and resources.

A big shoutout and thank you to Ron and Melanie for taking some time out of your summers to come help us out. And to all of our friends, family, and guests who have offered support, reached out to check in on us, or sent well wishes - we appreciate it all so much!

We aren't quite ready to set a reopening date just yet, but we are still aiming to be operational for the 2027 season. Keep an eye out for more updates later this fall.

As always, thank you all so much for sticking with us through this process. We can't wait to share this next version of Haskins Bay with you!

13 trips, one night spent in the Jeep, countless breakdowns, weather delays, slush, broken sleighs, lost tracks, lost loads...

It seemed like if it could go wrong, it did go wrong. But we persevered and managed to get the bulk of our building materials hauled into the camp this winter.

Big thank you to for helping make sure everything got where it needed to be.

Now the real work begins.

Normally we'd be flying in on May long weekend, but as you can see from the May 13 satellite image, the lake is still very much ice covered this year. Hoping for some warmer days ahead so we can get in and get going.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Haskins Bay Fly-In!

We hope everyone is enjoying a wonderful Christmas season and has a great start to 2026.

After spending the last 6+ months navigating the aftermath of the fire, we are grateful to be able to say that some forward progress is happening. We have been busy planning and preparing for our rebuild and are very close to finalizing the last few details.

Once the plans are complete, we can start focusing on taking those plans from paper to reality - which will surely bring a whole new set of challenges and surprises that come with building at such a remote location.

Being at the mercy of so many different factors, it is difficult to commit to hard timelines but we are hoping to be wrapping up the build by late 2026 and reopening for guests in the 2027 season.

Once again, we want to thank everyone for sticking with us through this uncertain time and we can't wait to welcome you back to Haskins Bay Fly-In!

Took a quick break from the to-do list to enjoy a bit of this beautiful afternoon on the water. Hard to believe we're still getting summer-like days on Sept 24! 🎣

Though we don’t have a lot of news to share at the moment, we wanted to give an update as it’s been a while since we last posted.

First off, we want to thank everyone for the flood of well wishes, kind thoughts, and offers to help that have come our way. If this experience has taught us anything, it’s that we have an amazing community of guests, family, and friends around us. There really aren’t words to express our gratitude enough.

We’ve spent some time up at Haskins Bay recently, where we’ve been working hard to get the site cleaned up. Meanwhile, we’ve been very slowly making our way through the insurance process. We’re hoping we can make some decisions and plans soon and will update once we are able.

Things certainly look different around Florence Lake, but after a few weeks surrounded by the aftermath of the fire and roughing it in a tent, we still love this place. The eagles, pelicans, loons, grouse, squirrels, and bears are still here. And, yes, the fish are still biting!

While a lot is gone now, there are a few pockets of old, familiar spots left behind and the forest is already starting to regenerate, one seedling at a time. It may not be what we would have chosen, but we do feel lucky to get to watch the growth and changes to come.

We’ve had a number of people reach out about booking for the 2026 season. Unfortunately, we are not yet able to commit to being operational for next year but will certainly update as we get a better idea of a timeline for reopening.

Thanks for sticking with us and for all the support. It means the world to us.

Our hearts are heavy as we share the news that Haskins Bay Fly-In was lost to the fire. We were still holding out hope for a miracle, but unfortunately we received word yesterday confirming the loss.

Since taking over this little fishing camp only four short years ago, we have enjoyed every second that we were fortunate enough to spend there - whether working on projects, enjoying the lake, or spending time with friends and family.

It's an easy place to fall in love with.

We know that Haskins Bay is special to many of you who have spent time there too, and our hearts go out to all of our guests who will feel this loss as well. We poured everything we had into building upon the incredible camp Haskins already was and making it the best we could for you.

We don't yet know what the coming months will hold, but we do plan to rebuild. We will continue to share updates, plans, and progress as we move through this process. In the meantime, please don't hesitate to reach out with any thoughts and suggestions you might have as we plan out the future of the camp.

We would also like to take a moment to acknowledge the devastation and loss that so many others are facing right now. While we are heartbroken over the loss of Haskins, we know that many others have lost so much more. Our thoughts are with all those who are picking up the pieces and trying to find a way forward from here.

While we don't have much for official information to pass along, we did want to give a quick update on the fire situation.

It is apparent on the maps that Florence Lake is now well within the fire perimeters. We are somehow still recording normal activity on our solar inverter and Starlink apps, which means the cabins are still standing at this time. We are certainly not in the clear yet and so much could still happen in the coming days, but this gives us some hope to hold onto.

The fire is still very much active and the evacuation orders are still in place. It will likely be some time before we are able to get eyes on the camp and truly know the state of things. We want to say another huge thank you to all of our groups for their patience and flexibility in navigating the uncertainty with us this season.

I didn't have a clue what the coming days would bring when I quickly snapped this photo back on May 24th. It has been absolutely heartbreaking to watch the fires spread so quickly and so far on the maps and to see the loss of homes and businesses in Denare Beach and so many other places across the north.

Our hearts go out to all those who are currently uprooted, those who have suffered losses, and the heroes on the front lines who are exhausted but still fighting hard for everyone.

This is not the post we were hoping to start the season off with but wanted to send a quick update, as I'm sure most have heard by now that Flin Flon/Creighton have been evacuated due to the Club fire. This of course means that we are not able to fly into Haskins Bay at this time.

The fire progressed very quickly and forced us to evacuate our guests earlier this week to ensure their safety and ability to leave the region. A huge thank you to Wings Over Kississing and their team at the Flin Flon base for their efforts and quick work in getting them out. We cannot express how grateful we are.

We are closely monitoring the situation and have been in contact with groups who have bookings in the coming weeks to ensure they stay updated. Thank you to all of our guests for being so incredibly understanding and patient during an uncertain time, and for all of you who have called or messaged to check in and send well wishes.

Our thoughts are with all those who have been displaced during this unprecedented fire season. We hope for a safe and speedy return to your homes and communities.

Finally, thank you to all the fire fighters, emergency response teams, SPSA, volunteers, support staff, and anyone else working so hard under very difficult conditions. Thank you just doesn't even come close to expressing the appreciation they all deserve.

Instead of sharing more images of fires, I thought I'd share one of a less chaotic time and what we hope we're all able to return to soon.

The 2025 season is officially underway!

It's hard to believe it's that time of the year again already, but we're back up at camp getting things prepped and checking projects off the list.

Unfortunately, fire season had an early start again this year too. There are multiple fires affecting the Hanson Lake Road (HWY 106). If you're planning a trip to the Creighton/Flin Flon/Denare Beach area, make sure to check the Highway Hotline for the latest information on closures and detours. We're hoping for some rain and favourable conditions for all the communities and businesses affected by the fires and for the emergency response personnel working hard to get things contained.

There are currently no fires in our immediate area and flights are going from Flin Flon without any issues, which we are very thankful for. At this time, there is no impact to Haskins Bay and upcoming trips are a go! As always, we will be in touch with our groups closer to trip dates with any relevant updates and information.

We did have a little snow this morning but keeping our fingers crossed for more moisture in the coming days!
