New Year went in a single booking. Christmas has gone too.

January is wide open from Sunday the 3rd onward, two-night minimum, several hundred dollars a night below holiday week. That includes the Martin Luther King weekend, the 15th through the 18th.

A lake house in winter is a different proposition from a lake house in July, and better in ways people do not expect. The fire is lit from about four in the afternoon. The water is glass because nobody is on it. There is no schedule and nowhere anyone has to drive. Five bedrooms sleeping twelve means the whole group fits.

If you are the person who ends up organising the trip every year, book it now and be finished with it by lunchtime.

Thanksgiving weekend is open at the lake, and we would rather it went to someone reading this than to a stranger on a booking site.

Friday 27 through Sunday 29 November. Georgia plays Georgia Tech at Sanford Stadium that Saturday, so if there are Dawgs in the family this sells itself.

Here is the honest pitch. The hard part of hosting Thanksgiving is not the cooking, it is that somebody has to host it. Here nobody does. Everybody cooks, because the kitchen fits more than one person at a time. Five bedrooms sleeping twelve, so no cousin ends up on a couch. The deck seats the whole group. And when the meal is over and the conversation has run its course, there is a golf simulator, shuffleboard and a putting green for the people who need somewhere to be.

One practical note: we have a same-day turnover that Friday morning, so check-in is 4pm and we cannot flex it earlier. Worth knowing if you are driving up with a boot full of food.

Saturday 3 October is Georgia against Vanderbilt at Sanford Stadium, and it is UGA Homecoming.
The weekend of the 2nd through the 4th is open here, which for a Homecoming weekend is unusual this late. Eatonton is a straightforward drive from Athens, and early October is quietly the best stretch of the year on Lake Oconee. The water still holds summer heat, the crowds left after Labor Day, and the sun goes down early enough that you actually see it from the dock instead of waiting up for it.

Two November weekends are open here, and only one of them has a football reason attached.

Georgia hosts Missouri at Sanford Stadium on Saturday 14 November, and the 13th through the 15th is free. So is the following weekend, the 20th through the 22nd, which has no reason attached at all and is arguably the better one for it.

November at Lake Oconee is the stretch locals keep quiet about. The summer crowd has gone, the water is still warm enough for the swim spa, and you can see the far bank because the trees have thinned out. Sunset lands around half five, so you actually catch it from the dock rather than waiting up for it.

Five bedrooms, sleeps twelve, one table everybody fits around, and a kitchen two people can work in without colliding.

Happy Labor Day from the lake.

The water is still warm, the dock is still busy, and by tonight half of Georgia will be grilling something. We hope wherever you're spending the long weekend, it's with people you like and a plate you didn't have to clean up.

Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, and Georgia plays Florida in Atlanta the same afternoon.

That combination is awkward if you are trying to do both from home, and easy if you are not at home. Eatonton is a straightforward drive from Mercedes-Benz Stadium, kickoff is 3:30, and the house is an hour and a half back down the road for whatever the evening turns into.

The weekend of the 30th through the 1st is open. What it actually looks like here: the lake is quiet, the fire pit gets going about six, and the lower level has a foosball table and a vintage arcade cabinet, which is where the children go the moment the adults start talking about football.

Five bedrooms, sleeps twelve. Bring costumes if you want, nobody here will think it is strange.
