At Rwakobo Rock, the cottages don’t just sit on the landscape, they are built around it.

Nestled among the granite rocks and greenery, each cottage works with the natural shape of the terrain rather than trying to hide it. From the rock formations beside the cottages to the rocky terraces and pathways, the landscape becomes part of the experience.

Behind every new dish is a little bit of experimenting.

Our kitchen team has been working on some new dishes and experimenting with different ways of presenting them, while we also try out new ways of capturing the food for our content.

From the first plate to the final photo, there’s plenty happening behind the scenes before a dish makes it to the table. And we’re looking forward to sharing more of what the kitchen has been creating.

Who decides where the herd goes? 🐃

During a game drive through Lake Mburo National Park, we came across this large herd of buffalo gathered around the water.

Did you know that buffalo herds have been observed making collective decisions about where to move? Females will stand and face the direction they prefer, and the herd tends to follow the direction chosen by the majority. Nature’s own version of a group decision.

A little behind-the-scenes look at what goes on in the Rwakobo Rock kitchen. 🍝

From preparing the dough to carefully filling and shaping each piece, there’s plenty of work that goes into creating the meals served at the lodge.

Throughout the lodge, you’ll find local stone, natural wood, woven details and earthy tones that bring the surroundings indoors. Even the wooden supports and handrails are made from natural branches, giving each space a unique feel.

In the Family Cottage, these details come together to create a warm, comfortable space that still feels closely connected to the landscape outside.

As the last light fades over Lake Mburo National Park, Rwakobo Rock takes on a whole different atmosphere.

From above, you can see the lodge tucked into the rocks and surrounded by trees, with the warm glow of the evening lights beginning to appear across the property.

A tiny bird with some seriously striking colours. 🐝

This is a Little Bee-eater, one of the many bird species you can spot in and around Lake Mburo National Park. With its bright green feathers, golden yellow throat and vivid red eye, it’s certainly easy to admire when it pauses long enough for a close look.

Little Bee-eaters feed mainly on insects, often watching patiently from a perch before making a quick flight to catch their next meal.

From its elevated position among the granite hills, Rwakobo Rock looks out across the surrounding savannah and woodland, with rolling hills stretching into the distance.

Whether you're watching the sun sink towards the horizon or simply taking a quiet moment between activities, there's always something to enjoy about the view.
