After starting our vacation rental endeavor almost 5 years ago, we have finally reached 100 reviews on VRBO with an average review rate of 4.96 out of 5 stars! We are also are averaging 4.95 out of 5 stars on Airbnb with 60 guest reviews.

We have learned a lot from dealing with a pandemic, hurricane reconstruction, and multiple other issues that have arisen. It's been both rewarding and humbling, and we are grateful for the opportunity to continue to provide families with the best vacation experience possible!

Phase 2 of Hurricane Sally reconstruction is about to begin, and we are hopeful the Parrot will be returned to normal by February. We also look forward to the new splash pad that is scheduled to be installed in the near future.

We were regrettably forced to cancel a lot of reservations for April and May which left our guests short notice to find lodging for their vacations. We feel terrible about this as this is not how we operate; it is a little hard to understand how a construction project that began in September 2020 is still continuing well into 2021. Here is a paraphrased email from Our HOA discussing construction for the near and distant future:

The Board formulated an approach for proceeding with a phased scope of construction repair as follows:

Phase I: April 19 - May 24 2021: We will close the residential complex to everyone but EPM, owners and NCRI. Only owners who currently permanently reside on property can remain overnight. Long-term renters will be considered only on a case basis. No rentals or guests will be allowed on the property during this timeframe. If you are renting on your own, and have a rental scheduled, you must cancel that during this timeframe. Current short term rentals in units may continue on property until their rental contract expires, but they cannot be extended or renewed. Do not execute any new rental agreements for the period April 19 through May 24. PKRM will cancel any rentals in their program for that timeframe. Owners are permitted to visit the property for the day, but will have to pre-register themselves and their vehicles with Etheridge. Any owners desiring to visit the complex or inspect units will need to schedule an appointment during designated “visitation times” (to be promulgated separately). Parking will be in designated locations only (TBD). The pools will be closed. The Tiki Bar back gate will be locked and no Tiki Bar staff/patrons, visitors, or deliveries will be allowed inside the complex vehicle gates. Tiki staff/patrons/deliveries must enter/exit via the front pedestrian gate. Anyone not meeting these criteria will be considered a trespasser and Escambia County Sheriff’s deputies will be called. Cars parked outside designated locations will be towed. NCRI will use this period for intense construction activity with the goal of returning almost all of the units to occupancy by May 24th (you will be individually notified if your unit is not expected to be ready by this date). Wind damage repairs including windows, exterior doors, roofs, and potentially work related to disputed wind loss will be performed in the Fall. No units will be given preferential treatment as all units possible will be repaired during this time.

Phase II: October 11, 2021 - ?: NCRI will return to the complex to complete the window and exterior door replacement and any other wind related work disputed in spring but determined to be hurricane related. Similar restrictions on access/use are possible during this timeframe. This period will likely end by Thanksgiving at the latest if you are trying to decide when to rent for the fall.

Rest assured the Board thought about all this at length before coming to the conclusion that this is the only way to (hopefully) be back in operation with almost all units online by Memorial weekend. We also recognize that there are a few units which have been able to continue to be used for rentals and will have to cancel upcoming reservations. We provided the maximum notice possible to still provide enough time to make the Memorial weekend date.

We did not take this action lightly but it is necessary to complete the repairs and avoid liability being incurred by the ownership as a whole due to a personal or property loss claim arising from the construction activity. The Board members want things open just like everyone else and as individual owners need rental income too – we’re all in this boat together. We believe this phased and concentrated construction approach has a high probability of giving us all a summer season and is the best option at this point.

Hurricane Sally did a number on The Purple Parrot Village Resort. Our Unit was only 1 of 2 Condos not damaged during the storm on the property; there are over 100 Condos located at the resort. Sally hit Perdido Key as a strong level 2 hurricane (110 mph winds), and brought with it a 3-4 foot storm surge. Additionally, Peridido Key was just right of the eye wall; with the storm moving very slowly at 2 to 3 mph, Hurricane Sally brought devastating rain and wind.

Currently there is a lot of construction going on at the Parrot. All downstairs units are being demoed, as well as the upstairs units that received water damage due to wind (roof and window water intrusion). The indoor poolhouse is being repaired from being flooded, and the outdoor pool is also not operational due to water damage to the pump equipment. The construction team is estimating completion of the project within 6 months.

We have only owned our property at the Parrot for 3 years now. In our limited time, we have learned a lot about hurricanes, and more about the resolve and grit of the Gulf Coast Community. The Tiki Bar at the Parrot has already reopend, and it continues to dish out excellent food, great libations, amazing music from talented musicians, and the island style atmosphere people love to escape to. The beaches on the Key are open and are still as beautiful as ever.

If you visit the area in the near future, you will see a lot of construction and rebuilding going on. This is heartbreaking for everyone; some of our best friends were hit extremely hard from the constant rain from Sally, and their home was flooded. Please keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers as the rebuilding process continues. The Gulf Coast Community will get through this!

Our unit is just a few steps from the giant outdoor pool, complete with a grotto waterfall and an island hot tub. Additionally, this gated property is home to the locally renowned poolside Purple Parrot Tiki Bar and Grill, offering frequent live music, island cocktails, American cuisine and a relaxing atmosphere. Weather not cooperating? No worries, our villa is situated right next door to the indoor pool house offering a heated pool, spa, fitness center, and a locker room equipped with his and hers saunas.

Our trendy second floor villa features stainless steel appliances, high-end furniture and a screened-in balcony. The bedroom features a queen size bed equipped with a plush Simmons Beautyrest Signature Select mattress, a ceiling fan, a flat screen television and a large closet. The living area comes furnished with a Netflix connected 48" LED smart TV, and can accommodate two extra guests on a sleeper sofa fitted with a pull-out queen size mattress. Additionally, there is an Alexa powered Ecobee4 smart thermostat equipped with Amazon Music; you can listen to various genres of music, inquire about the weather, ask Alexa to tell you a joke, as well as many other commands.

Traveling from afar or simply don't have enough trunk space for your much needed beach accessories? Again, no worries, you will be part of the Happy Hour family and we have you covered! In our condo's closet you will find five beach chairs (one is for a toddler), two coolers, a beach umbrella, his and hers snorkel gear, boogie boards, beach toys and a beach cart to haul everything with.

Perdido Key and the surrounding area has many great activities and experiences for your family to enjoy. You can find world-class fishing either off a pier in Pensacola Beach or Gulf Shores, or by chartering a boat with some of the finest fishing captains in the sunshine state. Are you an avid golfer? Great, there are numerous golf courses in the area for you to check out. Love those long walks on the beach? Take a short drive over to Johnson Beach (part of the Gulf Islands National Seashore) and beach-comb your way through the beautiful white sands of this secluded peninsula. Want to hit the arcades or play some mini-golf? Hop in the car and take a 15-20 minute drive to Orange Beach where your family can enjoy some of the more touristy beach town activities.
