The story of the Karoo Suite began with a special friendship between Deon Meyer and Coenie de Villiers, who have known each other for over 40 years and share a profound love for the Karoo.
What started as a bold experiment โ writing a crime story specifically to be performed with live music, rather than adapting it later โ grew into something truly unique.
Deon crafted a gripping narrative set in the vast, haunting landscapes of the Karoo, while Coenie composed music in parallel, letting the mood and rhythm of the story shape every note.
The two art forms developed together, each influencing the other, resulting in a powerful fusion of storytelling and sound.
Karoo Suite 1 & 2 beautifully blends literature and music into an immersive experience.
Rooted in the stark beauty of the Karoo, these stories explore isolation, memory, violence, and redemption โ tales that leave you quietly moved, with melodies that linger long after the performance ends.
Now, Deon and Coenie are bringing an intimate selection from both suites to Jeffreys Bay in a special show called ๐๐๐๐๐-๐๐๐๐, complete with a few exciting surprises.
