Cornered, wounded, but undefeated.

The Mbiri lioness found herself completely cornered by the Nharu coalition in a high-stakes standoff that could have easily gone another way. After a tense confrontation, the Nharus finally moved on, leaving the Mbiri female alone to lay down and begin the slow process of recuperation. She has sustained some serious wounds that will test her strength in the days to come.

Chinya, the son of Red Road, is on a mission.

He’s been moving through the reserve searching for a mate, actively inspecting the bush for any scent marks left behind by females.

The big question right now is: where is the Nharu pride? Chinya is doing the groundwork to see if they, or any other receptive females, are still in the area, catching up on the chemical boundaries left behind in the soil and vegetation.

Nzuri and his coalition partners have chosen to stand their ground, staying exactly where the new Mantemahles are trying to establish their new territory.

It’s a high-stakes move. The Nzuri male was recently spotted with a fresh gash, which is likely from a run-in with the Mantemahles. What makes this fascinating is that the Nzuris are only about half the age of the incoming males, yet they are refusing to back down. It is an incredibly brave, and risky, display of resilience as they fight to hold onto their home.
