HERITAGE MONTH | THE GREEN POINT LIGHTHOUSE ❤️🤍

Few landmarks are as instantly recognisable in Green Point as the iconic red-and-white lighthouse.
First lit in 1824, the Green Point Lighthouse is recognised as South Africa’s oldest operational lighthouse. It was built to help guide ships safely around the Cape, an important point along one of the world’s busiest and most treacherous maritime routes.
Its distinctive red-and-white striped tower was designed to make the lighthouse clearly visible during daylight, while its light provided an essential navigational aid after dark.
The lighthouse stands at approximately 16 metres high and has become an enduring part of Cape Town’s coastal landscape.
More than two centuries later, it continues to operate — making it not only a historic landmark, but a working piece of Cape Town’s maritime heritage.

This Heritage Month, look a little closer at the landmarks that have helped shape our city.

A recipe with history. A tradition worth celebrating. 🇿🇦

Before we put an ANEW twist on the koe’sister, it’s worth remembering where this beloved South African treat comes from.

With deep roots in Cape Malay culinary heritage, the koe’sister has been passed down through generations, traditionally enjoyed as a sweet, spiced and coconut-coated treat – often shared around the table with family and community.
From the Cape to kitchens across South Africa, it has become more than just something delicious. It’s a recipe that carries memory, culture and tradition.
And with National Koe’Sister Day falling on 6 September, right as Heritage Month begins, there’s no better time to celebrate the stories, flavours and traditions that make South African food so special.

This Heritage Month, we're celebrating the classic… before giving it a little ANEW twist. 👀
