THINGS THAT SURPRISE FOREIGNERS
Things nobody told you before your first Cape Town trip:

• The ocean is much colder than it looks. 🌊

• You can get four seasons in one day. ☁️

• The mountain decides whether your plans are happening sometimes. ⛰️

• Cape Town takes sunset VERY seriously. 🌅

• Distances can look tiny on a map and somehow aren’t.

• And “just one drink” has never meant just one drink.🍹

For Table Mountain.
The beaches.
The penguins.

One drink becomes a table full of people from six different countries.

That’s hostel life.

One of the best things about staying at The BIG? Look at where you are. 📍

We’re in Green Point, which means you can step outside and actually explore.

Walk towards the Sea Point Promenade.
Grab breakfast or coffee nearby.
Head towards the Waterfront.
Find somewhere for dinner or drinks.

Or simply wander around the neighbourhood and get your bearings.

When you’re visiting Cape Town for the first time, staying somewhere central makes a BIG difference.

And yes, we’ll happily point you in the right direction.

Cape Town safety advice we’d give our own friends.

・Don’t hike the mountain alone.

・Be aware of your belongings when you’re out.

・If you’re going somewhere unfamiliar, ask someone who knows the area first.

・At night, always drive/Uber, don’t walk.

And if something doesn’t feel right, change the plan.

Cape Town is an incredible city to explore, and a little local knowledge goes a long way.

That’s one of the reasons we value having a team around who knows this city and a community of travellers to explore it with.
