"Mountain Manor Guest House & Executive Suites is a genuine hidden gem, tucked on the lower slopes of Table Mountain yet only minutes from the Cape Town C*D. The owner, Michelle, took me through the property personally when I visited. It is so quiet and peaceful. One cannot imagine you are in a big city. The interiors left a lasting impression, particularly the vintage furniture and Cape Colonial architecture that give each room its own sense of history and character. The gardens are beautifully kept and peaceful, and the poolside area and braai facilities make it easy to picture oneself relaxing there after a day of sightseeing.

Having seen the Standard and Superior rooms as well as the self-catering suites, I can vouch for the quality of the finishes and the warmth of the hospitality behind them. As a tour operator, I visit a great many properties, and Mountain Manor stands out for combining heritage charm with genuine comfort and attentive, personal service. Thirty years ago, Michelle saw beyond the peeling paint and neglected interiors of an old-age home. She saw possibility. She stripped away layers of history, restored fireplaces and original Oregon-wood doorframes, brought beautiful antiques back to life and created a place where travellers could feel at home. It took seven years to secure the bond to finally make Mountain Manor hers. When the property next door became available, she simply made a plan — her enduring philosophy: “NIKE… Just do it.” ✨

But Michelle’s story is about far more than hospitality. It is a story of resilience, empowerment and giving back. From creating opportunities for chefs after COVID, to hosting Wellness Wednesdays and community markets, nurturing young hospitality talent, and now opening Mountain Manor’s event spaces free of charge to women in the community, she continues to create space for others to grow. Her belief is beautifully simple: “Always be willing to give of your time to others.” ❤️🌿

And then there is the tennis court — where Michelle has built an extraordinary sporting journey spanning decades, from provincial representation to becoming a South African Masters champion and representing South Africa internationally. 🎾🏆

This November, Mountain Manor celebrates 30 years of Michelle’s vision, resilience and constant re-imagining. Today, we celebrate the woman behind the legacy — a woman who didn’t simply build a business; she built opportunities for others along the way.
