Keeping ourselves busy by making lemonade while the sun struggles to shine. 🌥

Our lemonade celebrates the “old Cape lemon” (known scientifically as Citrus jambhiri), historically celebrated for its thick, bumpy, rough-textured yellow skin and sweet-sour juice.🍋

The tree was introduced to South Africa in the 17th century by the Dutch East India Company. It was famously planted by Jan van Riebeeck in the Company’s Gardens in Cape Town to supply passing sailors with fresh citrus to prevent scurvy.

Delicious and nutritious food on the tables of Wildekrans Country House, is a cornerstone of what we wake up for every day. Made with love in our kitchens by our small and food-loving team.

We have adapted some of our favourites to present hand-held country-style food for Elgin Open Gardens.

Do you recognise these plants?
New this year to our charity garden showing at Elgin Open Gardens, will be a few sessions of “Fynbos Talks and Plant ID”, over a country-style tea.

Green Mountain Trail guide and environmental educator, Andreas Groenewald, will present a couple of sessions on each of the two weekends, 1 & 2, and 8 & 9 November - around ninety minutes long and R150 per person.

It is that gorgeous garden time when head gardener, Barry Gould, struggles to leave home for his architectural practice at Peregrine Farm Stall. While building design is his first love, gardening comes a close second, and it shows.

Visit out garden on the weekends of 1 & 2 and 8 & 9 November, 9am to 4pm for Elgin Open Gardens annual charity garden shows. All donations on entrance go to the Botriver Education Foundation.
