Some days at the Nigel SPCA are incredibly hard.
We see animals arrive frightened, confused, abandoned and sometimes broken. We see kennels filled with beautiful souls who watch every person walk past, hoping that this might finally be their person.
And behind every one of those animals is a small team of people doing everything they can to make their world a little better.
That is why kindness matters.
Kindness is the way you speak to our staff when you phone or send a message. They may be dealing with an emergency, comforting a frightened animal or simply trying to stretch too few hands across too much work.
Kindness is sharing an adoption post, even when you cannot adopt. Somewhere in your circle may be the person one of our animals has been waiting for.
Kindness is R20 towards a fundraiser, a bag of food dropped at our gate, an old blanket, a sponsorship or a monthly donation. You may think it isn't enough. To us, it is never “just” R20, “just” a bag of food or “just” a blanket. It all adds up to animals being fed, warm, safe and cared for.
Kindness is choosing adoption and giving an unwanted animal the extraordinary gift of belonging to someone again.
Kindness is encouraging us when things are tough. It is saying thank you. It is offering a helping hand instead of criticism. It is understanding that we don't always have everything we need, but every day we show up and give everything we have.
And sometimes, kindness costs absolutely nothing.
Share the post. Speak gently. Tell someone about us. Advocate for an animal. Encourage our team. Care.
Because behind every kennel door is a life that matters.
Behind every rescue is a story still being written.
And behind every donation, adoption, sponsorship, share and kind word is a person helping us write a happier ending.
🩷 Please choose kindness. 🩷
Our animals need it. Our staff appreciate it. And our world could certainly use more of it.
