“Super Lodge in Sabi Sands

The lodge was easy to reach as a self-driver thanks to the descriptions on the website. During our stay (4 days), we felt very warmly welcomed by the friendly staff.

Our tent (Buffallothorn) was very large and beautifully designed. Because of the location, we didn’t notice anything about the other guests. The fact that there was a small outdoor gym was definitely a plus, as the food was also very good and plentiful. 😁

The highlight was of course the daily game drives, where our guide Steven actually allowed us to see all of the Big 5.

For us, Umkumbe was the perfect lodge and we would come back again in a heartbeat!”

One of the most unforgettable experiences at Umkumbe Bush Lodge is our guided bushwalks — a chance to slow down, switch off, and truly connect with the African bush on foot.

Led by our experienced armed trails guides, a bushwalk is all about seeing the bush from a completely different perspective. Without the engine of a vehicle, you begin to notice the smaller details you might normally miss — animal tracks in the sand, the calls of birds, medicinal plants, insects, and the incredible interconnectedness of the ecosystem around you.

It’s not just about spotting wildlife (although you might get lucky 👀), it’s about understanding the stories the bush is constantly telling.

Every step is safe, educational, and deeply immersive — a reminder that we are visitors in a living, breathing wilderness.

We’ve been to the Umkumbe Bush Lodge for Honeymoon and we’ve had an amazing experience. We spent 3 nights at the Honeymoon tent and 1 night at the superior tent.

Both of them were great, but the Honeymoon tent has a private pool and a nice view from the balcony - highly recommend it. I could not have choosen better acommodation - if you like camping, it’s a really great experience. We’re able to hear lions and hyenas from the tent during the night, and also could watch elephants, warthogs, zebras and impalas from the balcony of our Honeymoon tent during our stay (and also from the swimming pool and bar area).

The game drives were awesome, not crowdy, lots of times we had only our car stopping for animals or not more than 3 cars at the same time. They do go off road for the big five, which allows you to see them very closely - our guide Brandon was really nice. We had the same guide also for the bush walk and that was very interesting (we had the lucky of watching elephants during the walk).

The food was delicious, all meals well served. Everything in the lodge is very clean and organised, all the staff very kind and gentle. The dinner at the Boma outside is fantastic.

We would definitely come back :)
