Weekends in the Midlands are made for slow mornings and long afternoons outdoors. At Gateside, some of our units have their own outdoor spaces, from Frog Cottage with its deck and charcoal braai to the Patio unit with private seating and a braai, and Tiny Gateside with its covered verandah.

From Hilton you are close to Howick Falls, the Karkloof Canopy Tours, Chocolate Heaven at Nottingham Road, the Nelson Mandela Capture Site and Midmar Dam, so there is plenty to do before you head back for a braai.

Enjoy a comfortable stay at Gateside. Our guesthouse in Hilton has grown to 9 rooms and units, all either semi self-catered or fully self-catered, and every one is individual in décor and size to suit business, leisure and family needs.

Rooms come with Wi-Fi over fibre, electric blankets, a hairdryer, a safe and ironing facilities, with Netflix or DStv Go, and air-conditioned comfort in select units. Breakfasts are optional, served in-house or packed, and packed lunches and dinner trays can be booked 24 hours ahead.

Gateside sits in a peaceful cul-de-sac at 11 Quarry Road, Leonard, Hilton, with local restaurants all within 1 km. Make yourselves at home in our peaceful and beautiful setting.

Gateside has a convenient, central location in Hilton, but it's situated in a peaceful cul-de-sac at 11 Quarry Road, Leonard.

Parking is off-street, behind electric gates, and the parking area is covered by CCTV cameras. There's parking for one vehicle per room; if you're bringing more than one vehicle, just let us know before you arrive. Arriving late? Self check-in can be arranged after 6.30pm via WhatsApp.

Local restaurants are all within 1 km, and the Midlands is on the doorstep: Howick Falls, Karkloof Canopy Tours, Midmar Dam, the Nelson Mandela Capture Site and Chocolate Heaven in Nottingham Road. For business stays, our small conference room seats up to 18 delegates, with Wi-Fi over fibre. Check availability and book directly with us.

The garden at Gateside is a big part of the stay: wide lawns, mature trees, a swimming pool and the main house looking out over it all.

Gateside offers a relaxed garden setting in a peaceful cul-de-sac in Hilton, with eastern-facing views across pastures and a tranquil dam. Several units have their own outdoor spot to enjoy it, from Frog Cottage's spacious covered deck with a large charcoal braai, to Patio's private seating and braai area, and Tiny Gateside's covered verandah looking out to the view.

Five of our units are pet-friendly, so the whole family can come along (a fee per pet per night applies, so please book a pet-friendly unit). Accommodation sleeps 30 guests across 9 units, on a B&B or self-catering basis. Check availability and book directly with Gateside.

Step inside Gateside and you'll see why it's known as a "character" home: timber floors, a classic staircase and Victorian charm throughout the main house.

The story goes that Gateside is the oldest guesthouse in Hilton village. Over twenty-two years it has grown to 9 rooms and units, sleeping 30 guests, with three rooms on the upper floor of the main guesthouse and a mix of cottages and studios around the garden.

Breakfast is flexible: it's an optional extra that you're welcome to book on arrival for any or all days of your stay, served in-house or packed for early starts. Packed lunches are available, and a dinner tray can be delivered to your room if you'd rather not eat out (book 24 hours ahead). Check availability and book directly with us.
