In designing our lodges at Royal Malewane, Liz Biden took her cues from the landscape itself, letting every colour, texture and shape echo what lies just beyond the door. Her guiding principle was to reflect the beauty of nature and celebrate the rich colours of the bush. Never to imitate it, only to be inspired by it.

The colour palette moves from the golden light of the setting sun to the vibrant blue of a woodland kingfisher, softening to the dusty pink of the impala lily. These colours, borrowed from nature, meet textures you will want to touch. Even the forms are softened, with gentle curves the way nature intended.

The result is a collection of rooms and spaces in conversation with nature, each creating an atmosphere that complements its surroundings. Just as in the African bushveld, there is beauty to be found around every corner.

A group of talented young women from the local community spent four days learning about wildlife tourism and conservation as part of our annual Wild Shots Outreach initiative at Royal Malewane. A highlight of the programme was heading out on game drives with Royal Malewane’s Field Guides and Trackers to take beautiful images of wildlife in their natural habitat.

From never having been on a game drive to now considering careers in wildlife and conservation, the recent graduates came away with new skills and a deeper love and understanding of their natural heritage.
