The bush has a way of reminding you to keep your eyes open.

At first glance, you might only see grass, leaves and sandy ground.

Look a little closer and you’ll notice a snake perfectly blending into its
surroundings.

It’s these unexpected encounters that make time in the African bush so
fascinating. Wildlife isn’t always standing out in the open. Sometimes,
you have to know where to look.

Did you spot the snake straight away?

Few sights are as striking as a mature kudu standing quietly
amongst the bushveld.

With those incredible spiral horns and an ability to almost
disappear into the surrounding vegetation, the greater kudu is
one of those animals that can make you stop mid-conversation
and simply admire it.

Safari isn’t always about chasing the biggest sightings.
Sometimes, one beautiful moment is more than enough.

Crocodiles can spend long periods almost motionless beside the
water, conserving energy and waiting patiently. With their prehistoric
appearance and incredible survival instincts, they’re one of the most
fascinating animals to encounter in the African wilderness.

And when you spot several gathered along the water’s edge? That’s
definitely a moment worth stopping for.

Every safari has something different waiting to be discovered.

animals move freely through their territory.

Hyenas may have a reputation for being some of the bush’s
toughest opportunists, but moments like this show a
completely different side. Resting together in the warmth of
the African sun, this little group looks far more cuddly than
intimidating.

It’s these quiet, unexpected encounters that make every
safari different. Sometimes the most memorable sightings
aren’t about the chase, but simply getting to observe wildlife
at ease in its natural environment.

You never quite know who might make an appearance when you’re
out in the bush! This spotted hyena gave us one of those brilliant
safari moments, casually making its way through the landscape as
the golden light settled over the bushveld.

Often misunderstood, hyenas are incredibly intelligent, social animals
and an important part of the African ecosystem. Seeing one in the
wild is always something special, especially when you get a moment
like this to simply watch it go about its day.

Another reminder that at Timbavati, the wild is never far away.

There’s more to the African bush than the wildlife.

The magnificent Marula tree is one of the Lowveld’s most
recognisable trees, standing tall through changing seasons and
forming part of the landscape that makes a safari feel so special.

At Timbavati Safari Lodge, even the trees have a story to tell.

Slow down, look around and discover the smaller details of the
bush that are so easy to fall in love with.

Some of the best safari memories happen after the game drive
ends.

Back at Timbavati Safari Lodge, evenings are a chance to slow
down, gather around the table and enjoy time together. Whether
it’s a family game, sharing stories from the day’s sightings or
simply relaxing with a drink, these are the quiet moments that
make a getaway feel complete.

Because a safari isn’t only about what you see in the wild. It’s
about who you experience it with.

Sometimes you don’t even need to head out on safari for a wildlife
sighting! This warthog decided to take an evening stroll right through
the lodge grounds, completely unbothered and very much at home.

That’s one of the things we love most about life at Timbavati Safari
Lodge. The bush isn’t something you only experience on a game
drive. It’s all around you, and you never quite know who might
wander past next.

Come for the safari. Stay for the unexpected visitors.

With its unmistakable greenish-yellow trunk and delicate
canopy, the fever tree is one of the bushveld’s most striking
trees. Its unusual name comes from early settlers who
associated the tree with malaria, when in reality, fever trees
simply favoured the same warm, low-lying areas where
mosquitoes were common.

At Timbavati Safari Lodge, the natural surroundings are part of
the experience. Even a quiet walk around the lodge can
introduce you to something worth stopping to admire.
