There’s a quiet kind of joy in a Sunday well spent.

Good music, familiar faces, and a setting that invites you to slow down and stay a little longer.

This Sunday, 28 June from 12pm to 3pm, Mr Trumpet Ndumiso Nyovane joins us at Sanctuary Mandela for an afternoon of soulful sound and easy elegance.

Location: Sanctuary Mandela Boutique Hotel, Johannesburg

Set within the former home of Nelson Mandela, Sunday Jazz continues a tradition of bringing people together, to connect, to reflect, and to simply enjoy the moment.

Join us for the performance, or make it a full experience with a three-course meal inspired by Madiba’s favourite dishes, paired with a complimentary glass of bubbles. And if the day feels too good to end, you can always turn it into a stay and carry the experience into the next morning with our Jazz & Stay package.

Seats are limited, so early booking is recommended: https://sanctuarymandela.com/jazzsundays/

Some guests begin the day slowly. Others prefer to ease into it with a refreshing swim before breakfast.

Even in the cooler months, the pool remains part of the rhythm of the home, offering a quiet moment to reset before the day fully begins.

Every stay here is shaped around comfort and personal preference. Whether it’s an early morning swim, a gym session, breakfast in bed or an in-room spa treatment, the team is always on hand to tailor the experience in a way that feels thoughtful and effortless.

All you need to do is let us know what your perfect morning looks like. We’ll take care of the rest.

He was known to many as 'Tata', meaning father in isiXhosa.

Not only because Nelson Mandela became the father of a nation, but because of the care, guidance and compassion he extended to so many throughout his life. It is a name spoken with deep affection, respect and gratitude.

This Father’s Day, we honour all the men who show up with love and presence in the lives of others. Fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, mentors, and those stepping into the role in their own way. We also celebrate those preparing to become fathers, embracing a new chapter of care and responsibility.

May today offer a moment to slow down, reflect and appreciate the connections that shape us most deeply.

Wishing you a meaningful Father’s Day from all of us at Sanctuary Mandela.

After the journey, there’s something comforting about finally arriving somewhere that allows you to exhale.

A warm robe.
A glass of wine waiting nearby.
The Johannesburg sunset settling outside the window as the pace of the day begins to soften.

For many guests arriving from abroad, this home becomes a place to gently ease into the country; resting after a long flight, unwinding with an in-room spa treatment, and allowing themselves a quiet moment before the next chapter of their travels begins.

It’s a slower kind of luxury. One shaped by comfort, care and the feeling of being looked after from the moment you arrive.

Some moments become part of the story of a place forever.

We were deeply honoured to welcome the legendary Abdullah Ibrahim into this home, where his music filled these walls with the same spirit of reflection, connection and humanity that has always defined this space.

A true icon of South African jazz, his artistry carried stories of our country, our struggles, our resilience and our beauty across generations and borders.

Today, we remember and celebrate a remarkable life, and we feel grateful that this historic home was able to hold a small part of his incredible journey.

May his music continue to inspire, move and connect people for generations to come.

What do you think Madiba would encourage young people to never stop doing?

Youth Day invites us to pause and think about the future, while remembering the young people whose courage helped shape the South Africa we know today.

Within these walls, Nelson Mandela often spoke about the power of young people and their ability to move the world forward. He believed in possibility, in growth, and in the importance of investing in generations to come.

So we asked members of our team a simple question: "If Madiba were speaking to young people today, what do you think he would encourage them to never stop doing?"

Their answers are a reminder that while times may change, values like hope, learning, kindness and perseverance continue to matter.

We’d love to hear from you too.

Working within this home carries a different kind of meaning.

For many of the team, it is more than hospitality alone. It is the opportunity to care for a space so deeply connected to the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela, while helping guests experience that history in a way that feels personal and real.

Every room, every story shared, every interaction becomes part of preserving the spirit of this home and the values Madiba stood for.

We recently asked Tumi a simple question: “What do you think Mandela would think of the work you do here at his former home?”

Her answer is a thoughtful reminder of the pride, responsibility and purpose the team brings to their work each day.

This Father’s Day, spend the afternoon differently.

Good music. Meaningful conversation. Time shared in a home that has always welcomed connection and togetherness.

On Sunday, 21 June from 12pm to 3pm, Mpumi Dhlamini joins us for a soulful Sunday Jazz experience designed to be enjoyed slowly and in good company.

Whether you’re celebrating your father, grandfather, stepfather, mentor, or simply gathering with the people who matter most, the afternoon offers a chance to pause and create new memories together.

The experience begins long before a guest reaches their room.

A seat offered in the lounge.
A welcome drink in hand.
A moment to settle in after the journey.

Here, check-in is not simply a process. It’s the beginning of being cared for thoughtfully and personally from the moment you arrive.

Every guest is welcomed with intention, and every stay is approached with the understanding that comfort means different things to different people. Whether it’s a small preference, a special request or simply creating a sense of ease, the team does everything they can to make each person feel genuinely looked after.

We don’t say “welcome home” lightly. It’s a feeling we work to create in every interaction.

Every bottle poured here is chosen with intention.

In this home, wine has always been about more than what sits in the glass. It’s about bringing people together, encouraging conversation, and creating moments that linger long after the table has been cleared.

As Kervin shares, the wine selection at Sanctuary Mandela is thoughtfully curated to reflect both the warmth of African hospitality and the tastes and traditions that shaped the home during Madiba’s years here.

Paired with dishes inspired by meals Nelson Mandela himself enjoyed, the experience becomes one of quiet connection; where food, wine and story come together naturally.

Join us at Insights Restaurant and discover a dining experience shaped by heritage, flavour and thoughtful detail.
