🇿🇦❤️ The Kariega River is a fascinating natural feature located in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. It begins about 24 kilometers west of Grahamstown and flows intermittently before emptying into the Indian Ocean at Kenton-on-Sea. The river is approximately 138 kilometers long and has a basin size of 685 square kilometers.

The estuary at Kenton-on-Sea is a popular spot for recreational activities like boating, fishing, and birdwatching. The area is rich in biodiversity, with various species of fish, birds, and other wildlife thriving in and around the river. The name "Kariega" is believed to have Khoikhoi origins, though its exact meaning remains uncertain. Some suggest it may refer to the steenbok, a small antelope native to the region.
Nearby, the Kariega Game Reserve offers a unique safari experience with opportunities to see the Big Five and other wildlife. The reserve spans 10,000 hectares and features diverse ecosystems, including riverine forests and savannahs
