Wanneer sommige kampeerders wou weet hoekom die kleedkamers bo trappe gebou is, het ek altyd gesê dis "bo vloed gebied" gebou. Little did I know that in the 18th year, the river would say "uhm...correction"

What are we doing at Geelkrans? Part 3
Photos are deceiving and difficult to portray the truth, BUT we did start to LOOK FOR 😊 and then open the road down to Geelkrans again - that little piece between sites 1 and 2. Well, we are trying. I can just tell you, this flood was HECTIC as everything is tangled and/or buried. NOT as easy as one might think. Four men, 2 hours, and at least we are halfway.

What are we doing at Geelkrans? Part 2
Soooo, on Saturday some workers were free to come speed up my efforts by a full 100% 😆 Even the small excavator had pity on me and joined the effort - this is at the entrance where damage is mild to bad. This makes a HUGE difference.
Even BOTH eagles came to show their support and I am happy to say they are nesting AGAIN. Most committed parents I have come across in my lifetime.

What are we doing at Geelkrans? Part 1
I started to clean up around the trees and some clivias, just two hours a day, for a few days, but it is not as easy as one thinks...die biesies en die sand is 'n taai kombinasie...die "strooi nessies" draai om die takke en bome sodat jy met mening moet werk om hul los te kry - dis nie net skud en daar gaat hy nie. Here are some examples, although it is difficult to film with one hand...Also decided to let the clivias go that is buried under the sand for now. There is just too much sand.

Same spot, 2 weeks apart...just a tiny example of how the whole campsite has actually changed, so when I walk through it, everywhere I look "seems foreign to me" as if I am not where I used to be 🫣.

One orchard at a time. Don't get overwhelmed. Just focus on one orchard at a time. Making immense progress. 🥳🚜🦹🚜

Die huidige stand van die rivier by Geelkrans bly vol met al die damme, riviere, lopies, gate, fonteine, gate, ensovoorts oorvol. Die water is so hoog dat dit bly lek-lek aan die braais. Dis nog baie nat, so as jy nie versigtig trap op die nuwe "strande" nie, sak jy in die dryfsand weg.

What are (were!) we doing on the farm? Part 3
Where the valley is usually blue and green (tractors!) this time of the year, harvesting fruit against a strict timeline, it is now yellow with every farmer hiring excavators, bulldozers or anything that can help!
Before the second "flood" has halted work, we have cleared the gravel roads of metres of debris and was then able to reach the debris under the trees with 6 ton excavators. Dit lê nou langs die rye bome, gereed om verwyder te word.
We had to call in the big guns (30 ton excavator!) for the tango orchard as well as the roads in the mountains..."the show must go on"
