It's "cut-your-fire-break" time again in Kosi Bay. If you want to protect your property against the burning of the bush in the area, you make sure you cut your fire-breaks.

At this time of year, the local herdsmen burn the bush so that new sweet green grass will grow in the spring for their cattle. If a fire is started near your property, it's wise to watch it's progress, especially if it's a windy day.

Our staff are as protective of the lodge property as we are. And they are very handy with pangas and igejos (machetes and hoes) and soon cut the brush away from the fence.

Well done, ladies. Always good work!

In the early winter mornings, the weather is chilly but pleasant. This morning the sun came out during the morning and the water lilies opened to greet it.

Now it's mid day. The sun's disappeared, the weather doesn't know what to do with itself, it's drizzling a bit, and the water lilies have decided to call it a day. It's turned a bit cool. Time for us Kosi-ites to put a jersey on!

During winter in South Africa, there is always snow in mountainous areas like the Drakensberg and Sani Pass. And the rest of South Africa can tell when it's snowing there by the cold wind and rain they experience. We can tell even here in Kosi Bay.

But Kosi is one of the warmest places in South Africa. That's why tourists enjoy coming here, summer and winter.

We've seen a lot of baby monkeys around the lodge recently.

And these 2 were together a lot, copying each other, prancing around together, chasing and grooming each other. So cute!

Beautiful King Protea 💕

Good morning 🪷🪷 The king protea became South Africa's national flower in 1976. It is represented on our birth certificates, passports and is the emblem of our national cricket and netball teams. This flowering shrub can, in nature, reach a height of 2m.🌸https://www.sa-nice.com

Sitting by the pond, breakfast of oats and raisin porridge close at hand, is a peaceful way to start the day. Peaceful. Restful. Great. Now I know why guests like to do this.

To relax by the pond at this time of day, waiting for the water lilies to open up and say Hello to the morning, appeals to the soul. Birds twitter in the background while the sun softly glimmers through the trees overhead.

On this warm autumn morning with no rain or cold forecast, guests get ready for a great day out on tour.

But breakfast first.
