Take a scenic drive on the reserve in an open game viewer to explore the magnificent view from on top of the mountain, while horse rides are available for the more energetic. Situated in the secluded Kamberg Valley, close enough to enjoy the Midlands Meander or the Rock Art at Kamberg, while superb hiking can be done on the Reserve or at Highmoor Reserve, only 5 kilometres away. Experience fine dining based on the rich African culture and its diverse cuisine. Bush dinners are also served on the deck in the indigenous forest, a perfect setting to experience the wonders of this National Heritage site. The lodge have two luxury rooms inside the lodge, equally appointed as the three superior garden suites with private decks overlooking the garden and mountain. All rooms are en-suite with bath and shower facilities. Two hours’ drive from Durban and four hours’ drive from Johannesburg.

Busy day at the lodge and Stud yesterday, a couple of babies still to come this foaling season and from January we are back to breeding again. Things just don’t stop. What is absolutely beautiful is that while staying at the lodge you can be a part of this journey, watch the foals grow up and the herd usually grazes right outside of the rooms. Belle decided that stable suite’s hot tub is her personal water trough (when it’s not hot).

We are incredibly proud to share that Qambathi Mountain Lodge has been recognised by Gastronomy Africa with the Best in Gastronomy Tourism Award for Sustainability.

For us, sustainability is about the small choices we make every day. Supporting local farmers and suppliers, creating seasonal menus around fresh, locally sourced ingredients, reducing and reusing waste, and moving away from unnecessary plastics.

We believe that luxury and sustainability should go hand in hand, and that thoughtful hospitality should leave a positive impact on the place we call home.

We still have more to learn and improve, but this recognition means so much to us.

A huge thank you to our wonderful team and local suppliers who make it all possible.

I feel like this award belongs to all of us, amazing local midlands food producers who have the same vision of the future and each one of us does a little extra to help protect the planet.

“One of the most beautiful settings in the world.”
Debra and her husband stayed with us in the Stable Suite for her 65th birthday. She described Qambathi as a place from another time — peaceful, authentic, and completely connected to the natural world.
Horses and zebras grazing right outside the door. A private veranda with hanging chairs. A wood-burning stove, clawfoot bathtub, and an outdoor wood-fired hot tub under the stars. Jay and the team looking after every need. And a final morning hike that ended with a wild herd of eland and zebra.
They loved it so much they extended their stay.

If you haven’t been following us closely on Social Media you may not know that we have a new room, our Farmhouse and Barnes room have been converted into a Farmhouse Suite, with its own lounge and separate bedroom, the easy flow through makes for a comfortable and relaxed stay. If you enjoy privacy and space check it out next time you book.

When Monday gets a bit too much with work messages, getting kids ready and to school on time, getting stuck in traffic again. Don’t circle back or put a pin in it for now or don’t even throw it at the board ad see what sticks. Of your 9-5 air quality includes an aircon and you feel like you need to breathe some fresh mountain air. Book now and get away from it all. Read a book, have an afternoon nap and escape to the place where the only traffic on the road are dairy cows. We’re here, we’re waiting for you…
