Every guest list has its own dynamic, and flexibility matters.

A question we get from brides during viewing is whether our on-site cottage accommodation is mandatory if their guests prefer individual private rooms over shared group layouts.

The short answer? Not at all.

While having up to 82 guests stay on site is a huge draw for many weekend celebrations, we know some groups need a different setup. If guests would like to arrange alternative accommodation, we are happy to share a list of our recommended local B&Bs and guesthouses nearby.

Before every group trip, someone ends up taking on the role of designated organiser, creating spreadsheets, drafting meal plans, and trying to build a schedule that keeps 10 different personalities happy.

Here is what usually makes or breaks the weekend: over-scheduling.

The best group trips are not the ones with packed hourly itineraries. They are the ones where nobody feels forced to stick to a plan:

• The early risers can take a quiet walk or go fishing without waking the house.

• The kids have space to run outside on their own.

• The people who just want to read a book by the fire can do so without feeling like they are missing out.

• And when it’s time for dinner, everyone naturally gathers around the braai because they want to be there, not because a schedule told them to.

When you choose a destination that offers space and options on site, you don't need a military itinerary to make the weekend fun, you just need room to let the trip happen naturally.

When you step onto a potential wedding venue, it is easy to get swept up in the beautiful scenery and forget to look at the practical details that make a wedding day run smoothly.

If you are scheduling venue viewings soon, here is a quick checklist of what to ask and what to look for while walking the property:

1. Logistics & Flow
• Ask: What is the wet-weather contingency plan, and does it feel like a compromise or a space you actually love?
• Look at: The distance between the ceremony spot, reception hall, and guest restrooms.

2. Accommodation & Travel
• Ask: How many guests can stay directly on site, and what is the check-in/check-out timing for a weekend stay?
• Look at: Parking layout and road access. Will guests be navigating dark or unfamiliar roads late at night?

3. Catering & Freedom
• Ask: Are outside caterers permitted, or do you work with a preferred list of vetted local chefs? (Also ask about kitchen use fees or surcharges).
• Look at: The kitchen setup and bar area layout. Is there enough prep space for your dining style?

4. Timelines & Setup
• Ask: When can suppliers enter the venue to start setting up, and are there strict noise or end-of-night curfews?

Taking notes on these core infrastructure details during your viewing gives you total clarity before signing a contract.

Save this post for your upcoming venue walk-throughs, or reach out to our team to book a private viewing of Bellwood.

Historically, wedding favours (bonbonnières) originated in European court life as small gifts of sugar or sweets given to guests as a symbol of shared good fortune and blessing.

While the tradition has lasted for centuries, the way we express that gratitude has changed. Today's best wedding gifts aren't plastic trinkets or expensive gimmicks, they are simple, thoughtful touches that welcome your guests to the celebration.

Whether you keep it traditional or completely modern, the goal remains the same as it was centuries ago: expressing heartfelt thanks to the people who matter most.

When was the last time you and your best friends got together with nowhere else to be?

Not a quick coffee between errands, not a busy dinner where half the table is checking their phones, but a full weekend with zero schedule.

Picture this: packing a bag, heading out into the countryside, and arriving at a cottage where the only agenda is catching up. Mornings that start with coffee on the verandah, afternoons spent on long walks along quiet dirt roads, and evenings around a fire with a glass of w**e, chatting about stories from ten years ago.

No rushing to dinner reservations, no crowds, and no pressure to dress up, just uninterrupted time with the people who know you best.

Sometimes, all you need is a quiet weekend away in the Midlands to recharge and reconnect.

If you're due for a girls' weekend away, explore our self-catering cottages at Bellwood.

More and more brides are redefining their wedding day to fit their personality rather than forcing themselves into traditional expectations.

Planning a day that protects your energy is key to actually enjoying it. Here are a few simple ways to avoid feeling overwhelmed:

• Plan a "First Look" Before the Ceremony: Seeing your partner privately before walking down the aisle takes the pressure off.

• Build In Intentional Breaks: Block 15–20 minutes right after the ceremony for just the two of you in a quiet room or garden to catch your breath and have a drink before joining post-ceremony drinks.

• Choose an Exclusive-Use Weekend Venue: Spreading your celebration over Friday to Sunday means you don't have to pack every interaction, conversation, and hug into a single 6-hour window.

• Set Your Own Timeline: You don't have to do a grand entrance, a public bouquet toss, or a long receiving line if those elements make you uncomfortable.

Your wedding day should feel like a celebration of your relationship, not a performance. Design it at a pace that lets you be present.
