The good news is that the R328 Oudtshoorn to Cango Caves/Swartberg Pass road has now reopened.
The bad news is that it is closed overnight from 6pm until 7am.
The Swartberg Pass has always been the shortest route to Prince Albert from Oudtshoorn, George and the coast. With Meiringspoort closed for the next year or so, the Swartberg Pass is the only route from the south to Prince Albert. The Pass is in reasonable condition and although doable in a sedan it is preferable to have something with a little more ground clearance.
We're looking forward to seeing you here at Travellers Rest.
Feel free to call us for any further information, opinions, or just to pass the time of day. 😉

Safe travels!

Well that's a milestone. Christmas Eve 10 years ago we opened our doors to take our first guest here at Travellers Rest. 8500 guests later, we've had an interesting and educational time meeting all of you and it was immensely enjoyable meeting 99% of you! (We don't suppose the 1% will be reading this anyway!). Thank you for all of your support and patronage over the past decade.
We would like to wish all of you a Happy New Year, and a prosperous and more importantly, healthy 2026.
From Jude and Bryan. Gaynor and Bokkie.
Rosie, Stanley and George send a tail wag also!
