Majestic moments on the trail! 🦅⛰️

Keep your eyes on the skies when you're out exploring! This incredible pair of black eagles—an adult and a juvenile—were spotted right here on Day 3 of our hiking trail.

We are incredibly fortunate to have three distinct breeding pairs of these beautiful birds making their home in different areas across the farm. There is a very good chance you'll catch a glimpse of them soaring high above the ridges during your stay!

Did you know that there were once as many as 200,000 oxwagons travelling across South Africa? 🇿🇦🌾

We are taking a closer look at the "Conradie wagon," named after the uncle we received it from. At the absolute peak of the oxwagon era, thousands of these incredible structures lined the roads, until they were eventually forbidden in the 1950s for being too slow compared to modern vehicles.

But the real treasure is hidden in the details. Take a look at this original license token still attached to the wood—stamped 1937 for the Pearston area and district! It’s incredible to think about the history these wheels have seen.

Step Back in Time at Witmos Oxwagon Camp! 🪵✨

There is nothing quite like experiencing history that is real.

We've taken off the back wheel of one of our wagons to reveal a piece of living history. Stamped onto the axle is the name "John Bradley & Co," crafted all the way back in 1853. That means this historic wagon is nearly 170 years old! Originally from a neighboring farm, it stands today as a beautiful reminder of our deep South African heritage.
