Angler and Antelope Guesthouse

Angler and Antelope Guesthouse 4-Star comfortable accommodation in the heart of KwaNojoli (formerly Somerset East), Eastern Cape, South Africa. Have a look at our food offerings.

The Angler and Antelope is in the town of Somerset East. Close enough to the centre to be convenient, but far enough away to enjoy the quiet of a rural town. The location is perfect for the business traveler. However, expert fly fisher Alan Hobson with his infectious enthusiasm for fly fishing, makes this venue a must visit for all fishermen. You can book Alan to take you on a guided fly fishing e

xperience, and while you're here why not have dinner at the guesthouse, and pair it with some of the single malt whiskies on offer. Give us a call or send us a message to discuss your accommodation needs, lets see if we can help!

Incredible mornings after an evening of rain. Stay away El Nino!

This month is a little different. We can't really give you the recipe for our lamb curry, because it's not ours to give. We were struggling to make a really nice lamb curry, so we asked Louise to help. Her curry was always a hit. A couple of years down the line, and we've nipped and tucked and altered slightly, but the basic recipe is still hers! Here is a tip, if your curry doesn't have the punchy flavour you're looking for, you're too stingy with the spices, I was shocked when she told me how much to put into the curry!

So here's the gist of the recipe: Lamb, lots of curry spice, some onions and tomato sauce, and a dash of chutney, and off you go.

Come and taste it, you won't be disappointed!

Sunrise is still happening at a respectable time, but it's changing rapidly, and one of these days we're going to be too late to catch it unless we get up really early, and that only happens when we go fishing far away!

We've seen quite a few of these Garden acraea butterflies. The reason could be that their host plant for caterpillars is the wild peach, and we have a few of those in our garden! We've seen the butterflies on the spekboom hedge, now we need to look out for the caterpillars on the wild peach.

Happy Spring Day! The weather promises to be beautiful, and the flowers and blossoms are out in full swing. The fig tree has a decided green tinge to it already, our Black Collared Barbets are going to be thrilled! Don't think it's quite time to pack the electric blankets away though, as winter always has it's last hoorah the third week in September.

We've had a couple of busy weeks, and the first thing our regulars look for when they get to the room is the complimentary rusks; not the coffee and tea, just the rusks. So, Sina is at it again. Next time she'll be able to do it completely unsupervised...if I can let the reigns go!

We've been at it again! Lunch packs, fishing lunches, Fly Fishing Festivals; the jaffle is a firm favourite. I just love coming up with different flavours to add in, this time there was a coriander and jalapenos salsa with chicken mayonaise. That surprise when you bite into chicken mayo, and there is something else there too!

One of Alan's brothers gave us a couple of Bulbinella plants, and we planted them in the stone wall next to the guesthouse. They are thriving, obviously enjoying the afternoon sun.

Bulbinella is an amazing plant. The sap in the leaves sooths skin irritations, including minor burns and sunburn, and it can also promote healing of small cuts, or insect bites.

So, if you're visiting and need something for your skin, just let us know, and we'll try to help provide some relief.

That moody, misty light that photographers love! We may prefer a bright sunny day, but the weather was perfect for photography when the folks from karoospace.co.za visited the other day!
