In the heart of Swellendam, Schoone Oordt Country House carries a history that stretches back to the early 1800s.

Shaped by generations of families, the house has moved through moments of grandeur, quiet decline, and careful restoration, most notably in the late 1960s. In 1983, it was formally recognised as a National Heritage Building, securing its place in South Africa’s architectural story.

Today, it remains a home where history is respectfully preserved and lived with, where every room holds traces of the past and every corner carries a story waiting to be discovered.

“Brilliant Stay.
We had only one night at Schoone Oordt Country House but what a stay! From the moment we arrived we were treated like old friends and made to feel very welcome. The accommodation is luxurious and indulgent, attention to detail is perfect. Loved the cafetiere for coffee in our room and the afternoon drinks by the pool. Dinner was perfect and the atmosphere was like an old fashioned house party. Breakfast was on another level, a feast meaning no lunch required. All topped off as we watched our car being washed before departure. Alison is a delight and already feels like an old friend. If we make it back to South Africa we wouldn't hesitate to stay again.”
