If you’re looking for a less-explored hike away from the usual crowds, save this post! Tucked away in the Magaliesberg Nature Conservancy lies Intaba Thulile Guest Farm —450 hectares of pristine bushveld, savannah grasslands, and indigenous forest. True to its name ("Peaceful Mountain"), this spot is a proper hidden escape.

The farm’s signature 5–7 km Badenhorst Trail will take you deep into the conservancy:

📍 The Route: the path winds past blue gum groves, through indigenous forest, and along a small stream before heading up the mountain. You’ll also pass a historical site containing the grave and commemorative headstone of the Boer casualties from the Anglo-Boer War's Battle of Nooitgedacht.
🧗 The Ascent: expect a steady 45-to-60-minute climb with a touch of light rock scrambling as you make your way to the plateau.
🪨 Summit Discoveries: once at the top, there is an additional 1 km stretch to reach the ancient stone circle set among striking rose quartz formations, plus extra circular paths to explore.
🦅 Views & Wildlife: panoramic views of the Magaliesberg range and Buffelspoort Dam to the north, with frequent sightings of mountain reedbuck, grey rhebok, klipspringers, baboons, Cape vultures, and black eagles.
🚩 Navigation: well-marked with red dots, wooden posts with directional arrows, rock cairns, and trimmed paths. (Descend back the way you came up, as the full circular mountain route is still in progress!)
👥 Access: open to non-resident guests, strictly GROUP BOOKINGS ONLY (perfect for hiking clubs or midweek crew outings!) from Monday to Friday, at R50 per person. You can also bring a mountain bike to explore the farm roads!
