Baby Savers SA Coalition of baby savers organisations in Southern Africa Unsafe abandonment should never be an option. RULES
1) Be kind and courteous.

Baby Savers SA (NPO 265-187) is a coalition of organisations that provide a safe alternative to unsafe baby abandonment through the use of a baby saver. We believe a child’s best interests are of paramount importance in every matter concerning a child in accordance with section 28 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa. A baby saver is a unit with an alarm system where one can safely and anonymously relinquish a baby rather than dumping it. A baby saver does not encourage abandonment, but rather offers a safe alternative to abandonment and should only be used as a last resort. Treat everyone with respect and be supportive rather than judgmental.
2) No hate speech or bullying is allowed.
3) No promotions, advertising or spam will be allowed and the poster will be removed with the post.
4) No photos of children under 18 allowed without parental consent.

Imagine being a desperate mother in crisis, pregnant and afraid, or feeling that you simply cannot care for your baby. You reach out for help, hoping someone will listen, guide you and show you what options are available.

Instead, you find yourself being sent from pillar to post, from one organisation to another, hearing things like: Sorry, your town falls outside our designation. You will need to contact another CPO or DSD.

Where does she go from there? Who does she turn to next? And what happens when she runs out of places to ask for help?

Questions are being raised about the geographical allocation of statutory child-protection services and the division of responsibility between Child Protection Organisations (CPOs) and the Department of Social Development (DSD).

When neighbouring suburbs fall under different service providers, how is an ordinary member of the public supposed to know which organisation is responsible for their area? Child protection should not be a maze of organisational boundaries.

Mothers in crisis should not have to navigate a complicated system just to find someone who can assist them. Hospitals, police officers, community workers and concerned members of the public should also be able to identify the correct service provider without confusion. We cannot expect vulnerable mothers to understand the internal structures of the social services system. It is the system’s responsibility to make help accessible.

Who will provide clear public guidance on where mothers, families and communities can access statutory child-protection services, and ensure that effective referral pathways exist when an organisation cannot assist within its designated area?

When mothers in crisis cannot find help, the consequences can be devastating. A system that fails to guide a desperate mother may leave a baby at risk of unsafe abandonment.

WHEN THERE IS NOWHERE SAFE TO TURN, BABIES PAY THE PRICE!!
No mother should ever feel that abandoning her baby is her only option.

But for some vulnerable mothers, the system fails them. They are left without the support, resources or safe alternatives they desperately need — and may feel they have nowhere else to turn. This should not be the last resort.

A Baby Saver offers a safe alternative — a place where a baby can be surrendered safely and receive the care they need.

We need more Baby Savers. We need to keep fighting for safe relinquishment.
And we need your help.

Help us protect babies. Help us defend hope.

❤️ Donate. Share. Help us save little lives.

SOUTH AFRICA NEEDS MORE BABY SAVERS.

There are far too few Baby Savers across South Africa. Every province should have safe options available for a mother who is in crisis and feels she has nowhere else to turn. Are you any of the following :

• CPOs
• Places of Safety
• Pregnancy Help Centres
• NPOs & NPCs
• Churches and community organisations
• Organisations working with vulnerable families
• Anyone involved in community work who wants to make a difference

If so and you would like to have a Baby Saver in your town , please contact: [email protected]

We also need help raising funds to manufacture and install more Baby Savers across South Africa , you can donate through our fundraising campaign - https://www.backabuddy.co.za/campaign/protecting-babies-defending-hope

OUR HERITAGE. OUR CHILDREN. OUR RESPONSIBILITY.

This Heritage Day, we remember that South Africa’s heritage belongs to every child — including the babies who are born into crisis.

Unsafe abandonment can cost a baby their life. But it doesn't have to.

Baby Savers offer a safe alternative. Safe relinquishment gives mothers in crisis a way to protect their babies — and gives babies a chance to live.

Let’s build a South Africa where no baby has to be abandoned to die.

💛 Safe relinquishment saves lives.
