The Red-headed Weaver (Anaplectes rubriceps) is one of the most distinctive birds of African woodlands and bush 🌳

🌿 Red-headed Weavers are often seen around Hacienda , where they can be admired up close in their natural environment 🐦

🔴 Males develop a bright red head during the breeding season; outside it, their colours become much duller
🧶 Famous for their intricately woven, hanging nests built high in trees

Hidden among the trees near Hacienda Destri Lodge, this beautiful orchid tree (Bauhinia) adds a splash of colour to the winter bush with its delicate pink blooms. 💗✨

🌿 Fun fact:
Its distinctive leaves are shaped like a butterfly 🦋, making the tree easy to recognise even when it's not in bloom.

This is the Smith’s Bush Squirrel (Paraxerus cepapi) — the most common tree-dwelling squirrel in South Africa.
