Collaborative field science at Kaingo.

A productive period of collaborative fieldwork at Kaingo Research Centre.

We were pleased to host Prof. Ara Monadjem from the University of Pretoria as part of a small mammal survey linked to the “Waterberg Positive Futures” initiative.

We also welcomed back the “Green Stuff” team, a collaboration between the University of Pretoria, the University of Liverpool, and the University of Oxford, led by Profs. Kate Parr and Mark Robertson.

Their work asks a deceptively simple but powerful question: “Where does the green stuff go?”This world-first, large-scale experiment investigates how termites influence nutrient cycling in savanna systems.

Field trapping and sampling were conducted within the same experimental plots, strengthening long-term collaboration and integrated ecosystem research.

Under the Waterberg night skies, the stars take centre stage.

With minimal light pollution, the Milky Way shines brightly above Kaingo, alongside the Southern Cross and the brilliant Alpha and Beta Centauri.
