At Laluka, the journey of a meal begins long before it reaches your plate.

Much of what we serve is connected to Laluka Farm, where fresh ingredients are grown, harvested and cared for with intention. From vegetables and herbs to honey, preserves, homemade cold meats and artisanal cheeses, every detail tells a story of sustainability, patience and respect for the land.

Guests can visit the farm, walk through the gardens and experience where part of their meal begins, creating a deeper connection between the landscape, the people and the flavours of Laluka.

Because at Laluka, dining is more than a culinary experience.

It is a true taste of place.

From our farm to your table.

Meet William, the coordinator of the Laluka gardens.

We asked him a simple question:

Does Laluka use chemical pesticides in the gardens?

Let’s find out…

Kruger or Welgevonden?

It’s one of the questions many guests ask when planning a South African safari.

Kruger is world-famous for a reason; vast, iconic and full of wildlife. But Welgevonden offers something very different: a malaria-free Big Five reserve, quiet roads, no self-drive traffic, full-horned rhinos, and a more intimate safari experience just a few hours from Johannesburg.

So which one is right for you?

We wrote a simple comparison to help you understand the difference. Not to say one is better than the other, but to show which safari might fit your journey best.

Malaria-free, three hours from Johannesburg, with rhinos that still carry their horns — an honest comparison of Welgevonden and Kruger to help you choose your South African safari.

wellness guided by nature.

Natural products, gentle hands and the quiet rhythm of the bush come together to create a moment of deep rest and renewal.

After time spent exploring Welgevonden, the spa offers space to slow down, release and reconnect with your body, your breath and the stillness around you.

A peaceful pause in the heart of the African bush.

The Big Five are some of Africa’s most iconic animals; lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo.

Originally, the name came from old hunting days, referring to the five animals considered the most difficult and dangerous to approach on foot.

Today, thankfully, the meaning is different.
On safari, the Big Five are no longer trophies. They are symbols of wild beauty, strength, vulnerability and conservation.

But at Laluka, we believe the bush is about more than ticking animals off a list. It is about slowing down, observing, learning and discovering the many stories that live within this landscape. From the largest elephant to the smallest track in the sand.

Which of the Big Five would you love to see most?

A sleep-out in the bush.

For guests who want to experience the reserve in a different way, the Laluka sleep-out is a night spent closer to nature.

You have dinner around the fire, sleep in a tent under the stars, and wake up with the sounds of the bush around you.

Simple, quiet and a little adventurous.

A different side of safari.

After a morning in the bush, there is time to simply be.

A cold drink, warm light, good company and conversations that flow without needing much more.

These are the quiet in-between moments that make a stay at Laluka feel so personal.

A growing Laluka family.

At Laluka, care is found in many forms.

It is in the way we welcome our guests, the way we work with the land, and the way we look after the animals that are part of life on our farm.

Here, our livestock roam freely across the farm property, living close to the rhythm of nature. And every year, new little ones arrive. A gentle reminder that Laluka is not only a safari lodge, but also a place of life, growth and nurturing.

Moments like these show the softer side of the farm.
A place where patience, respect and connection to the land are part of everyday life.

What to wear on safari, you may ask? 🌿

We always recommend wearing natural, earthy tones during your time out in the bush. Colours like khaki, olive, beige and brown blend beautifully into the African landscape and create a more authentic safari experience.

Bright or flashy colours can sometimes feel out of place in the wilderness and may draw unnecessary attention in nature. Soft, neutral tones allow you to feel more connected to the environment around you and of course, they look timeless on safari too. ✨
