We’re delighted to share that Serendipity Restaurant has been featured on the cover of the June 2026 edition of 𝗟𝘂𝘅𝘂𝗿𝘆 𝗗𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, published by World Luxury Restaurant Awards

The digital publication celebrates exceptional fine dining destinations from around the world and we are honoured to see a little corner of Wilderness featured among them.

At Serendipity, our interpretation of luxury has always been rooted in something deeper than silverware and white tablecloths. For us, luxury is the collective experience that creates a sense of wellbeing, connection and lasting memories. It is found in indigenous ingredients, sustainable sourcing, thoughtful hospitality and a dining experience that celebrates the unique flavours of South Africa.

Thank you to our incredible team, suppliers and guests who continue to make this journey possible.

Sometimes capturing the magic requires a little magic of its own.

Behind every beautifully styled photograph is a story our guests rarely get to see. In this case, our sommelier Shanté was balancing on a stack of boxes, hidden behind a screen, pouring a cocktail she couldn’t actually see.

📸 But, we got the shot thanks to Justin Thomson Photography

Most of us recognise spinach immediately.

But its wild coastal cousin tells a far older South African story.

Dune spinach grows naturally along the Garden Route coastline, thriving in salty sea air and sandy soils where few other edible plants can survive. For generations, it has provided a valuable source of vitamins, minerals and fibre to coastal communities.

𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗽𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 we continue that tradition through responsible foraging, incorporating dune spinach into selected dishes as a way of celebrating the extraordinary indigenous bounty found on our doorstep.

We are constantly exploring indigenous African ingredients and the stories they carry. 🌿

Madumbi, also known as 𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘰 𝘳𝘰𝘰𝘵 or 𝘺𝘢𝘮, has long been cultivated and enjoyed across Africa. Rich in starch and beautifully earthy in flavour, it offers an interesting local counterpart to the familiar South American potato.

In our kitchen, Madumbi is transformed in a number of ways, from delicate fried crisps to our own interpretation of gnocchi, celebrating heritage ingredients through a contemporary fine dining lens.

Our passion is exploring the space where heritage ingredients meet contemporary fine dining....

One of those ingredients is Sorghum, an ancient African grain with deep cultural roots. We reimagined the popped grain in our Earth & Sea starter with beetroot, bokkom chawanmushi and abalone.

Lightly popped for texture and nuttiness, sorghum brings a subtle reminder that some of the most exciting ingredients are the ones that have always belonged to this landscape.

Fine dining is an opportunity to tell a story about heritage, to remember what people once ate and celebrate the flavours of the continent.

Zero-proof pairings

This mocktail draws on the Outeniqua Mountains for inspiration ... with its pear orchards, bee hives and and misty valleys.

The 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝘆 & 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗦𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘇 is a mocktail of pear juice and soda layered with honeyed cream, a dusting of bee pollen and a sliver of fresh pear.
