Surrounded by friends, partners, supporters, and the people who helped shape this journey, our team. We took a moment to reflect, celebrate, laugh together and look ahead.

On 16 June, we celebrated 10 years of Green Safaris at Ila Safari Lodge, marking a decade of purpose-driven tourism in Zambia.

Joined by community leaders, tourism partners, industry colleagues, and members of the media, we reflected on the journey so far and the impact that can be achieved when tourism is guided by sustainability, conservation, and community.

A special moment of the celebration was the planting of baobab trees by our guests and team, a symbol of our values, our roots in Zambia, and our commitment to creating a lasting positive legacy.

It also marked the beginning of an ambitious goal for our anniversary year: the planting of 10,000 baobab trees.

As we look ahead to the next decade, we do so with gratitude for the journey so far and optimism for what lies ahead.

But one thing has remained constant: our commitment to the communities that help bring them to life.
 
From handmade chandeliers & lampshades, to custom furnishings and carefully crafted décor, local artisans and makers have always been part of our story. Their skill, creativity, and heritage are woven into the spaces our guests call home during their stay.

Guest stories shared around the fire, across dinner tables, and long after one last drink at the bar.
 
2018 marked a defining moment for Green Safaris, the year we grew from a single lodge into a collection of extraordinary destinations with the addition of another circuit, Kaya Mawa on Likoma Island in Malawi.
 
Since then, our journey has continued to expand, connecting diverse landscapes, experiences, and stories through a shared commitment to thoughtful travel and genuine hospitality.
 
Different destinations. Different rhythms. One Green Safaris.

The Kafue River holds so much life, and so many memories for us. Including the very first waters our e-boat quietly sailed across.
 
Since then, that journey has grown into something bigger. Electric boats, silent safari vehicles, e-bikes, and African’s only electric dhows, all part of how we continue to rethink the way travel moves through nature.
 
And through it all, the e-boat still glides softly along the river. Quiet enough for the hippos to keep gossiping uninterrupted.
 
Thoughtful travel has always been part of who we are.
 
Softly. Intentionally. Carefully.

Over the years, our kitchens have grown alongside us, shaped by chefs who continue to refine their craft, ingredients sourced with intention, and guests who gather around the table to savour it all.

Meet Molodoni, one of our longest serving team members at Ila Safari Lodge.
 
Over the years, he has witnessed Ila grow and evolve, while remaining a steady part of its story throughout.
 
In the words of our Managing Director, Dan,
“Our real achievement has never only been the lodges or the locations, but the people. Our proudest moments have been watching confidence grow, capacity develop, and lives change along the way.”

Today, we look back at where it all began. Ila Safari Lodge. The brainchild of Green Safaris and the opening chapter of our story.
