A bull elephant near Nyamepi. On foot.

He noticed us, considered us briefly, and walked on. Whether that was tolerance or indifference, we'll never know. But standing amongst the Croton bushes on the same patch of ground as an animal like this — that's what walking safari at Mana Pools are about.

Getting a good view of one however, out of the thick cover they favour during daylight hours, is far less certain...

Towards the end of the dry season, when the grazing is hard to come by, the buffalo take what they can get, resorting to browsing or even eating fallen fruits from the sausage trees - fruits which are hard enough the dent a car when they drop from the branches!
