Your stay with us at Hwange Safari Lodge can look a little different each day.

It might start before sunrise, heading out into the park while the bush slowly comes to life. A few hours later you could be watching a herd of elephants at the waterhole, before heading back to the lodge for a long, lazy afternoon by the pool.

Then, as the sun goes down, there’s a fire to gather around, stories from the day to swap, and dinner waiting at our Dingani restaurant.

This is the Hwange Safari Lodge experience.

That first drink after a few hours out in the bush is particularly refreshing…

Back from a game drive, a little dusty and usually with plenty to talk about, our ‘Tusker Bar’ at Hwange Safari Lodge is a pretty good place to end up. Gather around the bar inside or pull up a table for a group outside, whatever suits you. Find a seat, order something cold, and settle in.

A bush or safari vacation isn’t only about the hours spent out looking for wildlife, it’s just as much about the stories you bring back with you and the people you’ll meet along the way.

Today is World Elephant Day 🐘

Hwange is home to one of Africa’s largest elephant populations, and being able to watch these incredible animals in their natural environment is something we never take for granted.

Today, on World Elephant Day, we celebrate the giants that are such a huge part of us at Hwange Safari Lodge.

Most people think that a safari starts when the game drive vehicle leaves - we would argue that it starts about five minutes after you arrive at Hwange Safari Lodge.

Picture this: your bags are down, you’ve got something cold in your hand, and before you’ve even found your room, there’s already an elephant at the waterhole.

Your holiday has officially started. Cue safari mode.

People spend weeks deciding what to pack when they are going on safari.

Binoculars. Cameras. Neutral-coloured clothing. Wide-brimmed hats.

But the one thing nobody packs, is time… And yet that’s exactly what you will find when you arrive at Hwange Safari Lodge, and get out in the bush. Time to slow down, to switch off, and to simply enjoy where you are.

Between sunrise game drives and spectacular sunsets, there’s another side to being on safari that deserves just as much attention.

Long afternoons by the pool. A favourite book. A refreshing drink. And nowhere else you need to be.

It’s all part of the experience… because sometimes doing very little is exactly what a holiday is for.

When you first arrive in Hwange, your eyes are naturally drawn to the animals everyone talks about... and rightly so. But the longer you spend here, the more your attention shifts to everything else.

The bat-eared foxes resting in the shade. Eagles riding the thermals above the trees. Crowned cranes moving gracefully through the grass. The details in elephant skin (have a look at one of our earlier pictures this month), fresh tracks in the sand, and the countless little signs that remind you just how alive the bush really is.

In the end, it’s often these moments that stay with you the longest, a reminder that every sighting, big or small, is part of what makes Hwange so unforgettable.

Late afternoons on the Viewing Deck.

Whether you are interested in keeping an eye out for wildlife with your binoculars and camera close by, or simply unwinding with a refreshing G&T as the sun begins to set, the Viewing Deck is the perfect spot to slow down and watch the day come to a close - and meet new people too.

Cheers to another fantastic day in Africa.

When the sun disappears behind the trees, the hotel takes on a whole different atmosphere. Our bar comes alive, stories from the day’s sightings are discussed over a glass of wine with great excitement, the fire crackles late into the evening, and dinner is served at an unhurried pace.

It’s one of the things guests remember most about being in Hwange - not just the wildlife, but the feeling of ending each day somewhere warm, welcoming and completely removed from the rush of everyday life.

Have you booked to stay with us this winter? Book now if you haven’t - you do NOT want to miss out on these incredible rates.

Single Occupancy – $160 (Dinner, Bed & Breakfast)
Double Occupancy – $216 (Dinner, Bed & Breakfast)
