Did you know that northern Hwange is ecologically distinct from the rest of the park?

While the southern sectors are famous for deep Kalahari sands, the landscape around Robins Camp is defined by ancient basalt rock, natural mineral springs, and thick teak forests. This unique geology creates natural water traps that hold moisture late into the dry season, drawing diverse game into the northern sector.

It gives the north its rugged, wild character and makes every game drive feel like a true expedition.

Ears tuned to every rustle in the bush. 🐾

Those iconic, large rounded ears are not just for show; they act as powerful radar dishes, capturing subtle sounds across vast distances and helping regulate body temperature in the Hwange heat.

As August draws to a close, wildlife activity around Robins Camp is reaching its peak. Apex predators like the African wild dog are frequently spotted actively hunting across the northern sector as game congregates near the remaining water sources.

September and October offer some of the most dramatic encounters of the year. WhatsApp us at +27 73 030 2265 to check remaining availability.

Proof that romance is alive and well in northern Hwange! 🕊️❤️

Kuda captured this incredibly sweet moment at camp yesterday—two speckled pigeons (Columba guinea) coming together at just the right angle to create a perfect heart shape with their beaks.

While Hwange is famous for its large predators and big game, it is often these quiet, spontaneous details right around camp that make you stop and smile. Nature really does have a way of showing off when you least expect it!

The observation tower at Robins Camp carries nearly a century of wild history.

Long before this land became part of Hwange National Park, it was home to HG Robins; an eccentric astronomer, traveller, and fiercely dedicated conservationist. In 1934, he built this iconic tower to study the clear night skies and keep a watchful eye out for poachers across the territory.

Today, the tower remains a beloved landmark where guests can climb up, take in the endless views, and appreciate the legacy of protection that started right here.

Journeying deeper into the dry season. 🐾

Looking back at July’s field reports, everything in the park seemed to be on the move, treading the paths across the northern tracks in search of life-giving waterholes.

That steady momentum is only picking up as we head through August and into September. With the bush opening up and wildlife congregating in greater numbers every day, the late-winter sightings are setting up to be extraordinary.
