Simba River lodge our love for wildlife spills over to the dangerous, yet endangered species. Snakes play a very pivotal role in the ecosystem. We proudly have a number of these and see them every other day (pythons, cobras, black mambas, spotted bush snakes not forgetting puff adders amongst many others). We had the privilege of spotting a beautiful python in our camp yesterday. Traditional belief is we were being visited by the ancestors as it is considered a sacred snake. This was one of the ways they were preserved historically.

Snakes are an important part of our ecosystem. They help keep rodent populations under control and play their own fascinating role in maintaining the natural balance of the bush.

So, when you encounter one during your stay, there is no need for panic. Simply admire it from a safe distance and allow it the space to continue on its journey.

🌿 Our little rule of the wild:
See a snake → Stop → Step back → Give it space → Let nature take its course.

We can coexist beautifully when we respect wildlife and remember that we are visitors in their natural home.

At Sian Simba, every rustle in the grass, call in the night and slither through the bush is part of the incredible story of the Zambezi wilderness.
