𝗖𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆: 𝟭𝟭 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

Following a heartening response to Micheal Smith’s Crooked Contemporary class series earlier this year, we’re reuniting to celebrate the bent, the broken, the beautifully out-of-line.

This 11 November, Michael will facilitate a special Crooked Contemporary open class in anticipation of the launch of CROOKED Magazine on 14 November.

Join us as we cast off the rigid expectations of our bodies, to enhance our capacity for feeling, for moving, for what we deem ‘possible’.

This class is suitable for Q***r people and allies, new and experienced dancers, and anyone willing to have a go.

We were overflowing with pride when dancers from our weekly Still Dancing and Vital Dance class presented 'What Moves Us' last Saturday.

In front of a full house of family, friends and enthusiastic fans, our incredible community dancers performed a deeply moving and outrageously uplifting afternoon of movement and connection.

Congratulations to everyone who took part; and thank you for filling our theatre with such warmth 🧡

Can’t dance? No worries.

Our Dance For Absolute Beginners class series is an introductory experience to dance, for absolute beginners. No experience or natural skill is necessary.

The upcoming five-week series helps participants to feel more at ease and in tune with their bodies, discover their own natural groove, and feel connected to a welcoming, dance-loving community.

Join us for great tunes, new moves, social connections and all-round good vibes.

Dates: Thursday nights (12 November - 10 December)

A vast canopy of stars spills from the stage into the theatre, blanketing the entire audience in a single celestial expanse.

Within this mesmerising constellation of light and sound, bodies drift through an ever-shifting landscape where nothing remains fixed and everything is endlessly becoming – transforming, dissolving.

Both intimate and infinite, Galaxia invites us to surrender certainty and linger in the unknown, to glimpse - if only for a fleeting moment - our place within a cosmos that refuses to hold still.

Directed by Amber Haines and Kyle Page, the multi-award-winning Dancenorth Ensemble delivers a sublime choreographic encounter within a multidimensional expanse of stars.

Tomorrow, our incredible community of mature movers will present a special afternoon of dance in celebration of movement, friendship and life itself.

Dancers from our weekly Still and Vital classes have been working extraordinarily hard for months and we have almost a full house of friends, family and fans booked to see them in action.

This Saturday, 24 October, mature movers from our weekly Still Dancing and Vital Dance classes will set the Dancenorth stage alight with a special performance celebrating Queensland Seniors' Week.

'What Moves Us' will include performances, reflections and heartfelt connection; and has been made possible through donations as a free addition to weekly classes for those who’d like to expand their comfort zone beyond the studio and into performance.

These images are the first from today's dress rehearsal and showcase just how incredible our group of community dancers is.

In the past decade, we’ve hosted more than 100 resident artists and 300 secondment dancers through our building in Gurambilbarra (Townsville).

While these Artist Development offerings primarily aim to nurture Australia’s dance landscape and connect local artists to peers across the country, they also generate significant artistic and economic return in the form of new works, paid engagements for artists and direct injection into the local economy.

Earlier this month, we co-presented the World Premiere of Zane Saunders’ performance installation Preface at PUNQ Festival.

Dancenorth has been proud to host Zane in our studio for a series of creative residencies since 2018. Over the past nine years, Zane’s time at Dancenorth has supported the evolution of Preface, the ongoing development of his creative practice, and two-way creative and cultural exchange between Zane and our artistic community.

𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗗𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 𝗜𝗡 𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡: 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿

Each year, our team travels across parts of regional, rural and remote North Queensland to deliver free dance workshops to schools and community groups during our Regional Workshop Tour (RWT). While the Tour varies in length and location each year in response to Company activity, it is a highlight on our annual calendar.

In 2027, we will return to Mitakoodi Country and surrounding regions (Cloncurry, Julia Creek and Dajarra) and Winton to build on the relationships established this year. Donations support our work in these isolated regions, where dance isn't always present - but always warmly welcomed.

Your donations empower us to spend quality time in far-flung places, connecting with locals in meaningful ways through dance and creative exchange.

𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗗𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 𝗜𝗡 𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡: 𝙎𝙡𝙚𝙚𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙊𝙣𝙚𝙨

We recently premiered Sleepless Ones, a new full-length Australian work by independent dance-maker Michelle Heaven. Michelle carefully crafted this incredible work with the Dancenorth Ensemble in a series of creative developments spanning three years. Through philanthropic support, we were able to give Michelle our Company’s full support: our dancers, production team, admin, marketing and – ultimately – our audience.

The result was a richly layered, cinematic dance work that audiences have called “outstanding and original”, “unbelievable mastery of a show” and “one of the best performances I’ve seen”.

Your donations help us to support independent artists to make bold and innovative new works, which we can in turn share with audiences in regional North Queensland and beyond.
