This Oceans Week, we're bringing art and conservation together in our atrium.

As part of the Ocean Week Victoria celebrations, join us on June 6 at 12:00pm as artist Dana Batho creates an original coastal-inspired painting, live. Watch the artwork unfold in real time, connect with the community, and be part of something bigger.

The completed piece will be auctioned, with proceeds donated to Raincoast Conservation Foundation to support their 2026 field season and efforts to protect endangered killer whales and the ecosystems they depend on.

At The Parkside Hotel & Spa, sustainability is woven into every part of the experience. In celebration of Ocean Week Victoria, we're highlighting one of our favourite initiatives: kelp forest restoration along the BC coast, in partnership with Veritree Technology.

Kelp forests are among the ocean's most powerful ecosystems: absorbing carbon, sheltering marine life, and supporting coastal health. And with every stay at The Parkside, you're helping bring them back. For each reservation at The Parkside, we plant one kelp through our partnership with Veritree Technology, and ten more are planted when guests opt out of housekeeping!

This recognition means the world to us. Sustainability isn't a program we run or a box we check. It's the foundation our hotel was built on, and it's reflected in the everyday choices our incredible team makes for our guests, our community, and our planet.

Meet Rachel! Originally from Pingtung, Taiwan, Rachel first visited Victoria in 2018, and the city left such a lasting impression that she returned four years later to build a new chapter of her life here.

Now our Guest Services Supervisor, Rachel has been part of The Parkside family since May 2023. When she's not at work, you'll find her canoeing, paddle boarding, or exploring a new coffee shop. Her hidden gem? Grabbing a coffee and walking to Government House to enjoy the gardens, especially in the fall.

Fun fact: she once walked the crater rim of Mount Fuji!
