A wonderful video of our nearest castle and arguably the most famous. Even with footage as dramatic as this, a visit on foot is still a revelation.

Aberdeenshire is a top spot for lighthouse fans. Rattray Head, shown here, is the most photogenic. There's Girdle Ness and North Pier lighthouses in Aberdeen, Buchan Ness to the north and Todhead to the south.

The excellent Aberdeen Maritime Museum has a permanent Rattray Head feature, and the Museum of Scottish Lighthouses is 75 minutes away in Fraserburgh.
