Rowanlea Lodge is in an idyllic rural setting just outside the village of Marykirk, Aberdeenshire. There are many routes for walks and cyclists close by.

The pub has a superb cosy wood burner and the restaurant

a lovely open fire. The River Esk is a short walk from the lodge which is famous for its salmon and trout fishing. There are various places of interest to visit within 25 miles, there is a choice of Glamis, Crathes and Dunnotar castle, also the famous Balmoral castle a little further away. Glenshee Ski & Snowboard Centre and the Lecht Ski Centre are approximatley 50 miles from the Lodge. Montrose Basin Wildlife Centre is a local nature reserve home to over 50,000 migratory birds for those interested. There is plenty wild life on our doorstep, deer, squirrels and many birds. This is a perfect getaway for a relaxing break in the countryside with fantastic views across the Cairn O Mount. This high quality Lodge has been built from Scottish Douglas Fir trees and has a Scottish theme throughout which will provide a unique Log Cabin experience. This self catering accommodation has been decorated and furnished to a high standard comprising of one downstairs double bedroom, an open plan living room/kitchen, a shower room and an upstairs open plan bedroom and sitting area that sleeps four. All rooms are heated and the main living area has a log burner. Well behaved pets are welcome. Welcome packages can be provided on request for special occasions.

Hi everyone! 👋

💜For those who haven’t met me yet, I’m Lorna the owner of Rowanlea Lodge.
I’m a proud mum of three children and granny to four wonderful grandchildren, and family has always been at the heart of everything I do.
That’s why it’s so important to me that our guests feel genuinely welcomed and cared for during their stay.

🌸I love meeting and greeting our guests, adding those little homely touches that make all the difference and creating a warm and relaxing atmosphere where people can truly unwind.

✨I also take great pride in keeping the lodge to the highest standard. I’m always making sure everything is clean, fresh and spotless because I want every guest to walk through the door and instantly feel comfortable – like they’ve found a home away from home.

🪴When I’m not at the lodge, I’m happiest pottering in the garden, discovering a lovely local place to eat or simply being surrounded by my family.

☕️Those everyday small moments, laughing, cups of tea and a wee wine making memories together mean the world to me.

🍃If you told us twenty years ago we would have designed, built and be managing our own holiday let, we probably would have laughed and said 'I dinna think so'

🏡16 years ago we moved to the outskirts of Marykirk, Aberdeenshire where we found our forever home. With overgrown grounds , outdated decor and a house lacking some love it took a lot of time and sometimes tears to turn it into our wee haven on the hilltop.

☕️Once settled and after our youngest of three children left home we were left feeling a little lost. I remember sitting outside one morning with a strong coffee and an idea! Stewart came home from a busy day at work and as soon as I said 'I've been thinking...' he knew it wasn't just about what was for tea that night! 😆

💡A small idea turned into something real, ROWANLEA LODGE!

💜Built on our grounds in 2016 we entered a whole new world and what a whirlwind it has been!

💪🏻It hasn’t always been easy, but every late night, every challenge and every bit of hard graft has been worth it.

🫶🏻And even now, all these years later we’re still learning, still failing and succeeding.

What’s one smell that instantly takes you back to childhood? ☀️

For me, it’s fresh washing on the line. My mum loved a windy day so she could get the laundry out 😌

Now, hanging out fresh robes and bedding for our guests feels like a wee nod to her every time 💛 So simple, but so satisfying.

🥰🐾 Our guests Sharon, Stuart and their gorgeous doggie Max have recently stayed at Rowanlea Lodge and described their stay as "fabulous, peaceful and ideally situated for exploring the surrounding area".

📖They received the guidebook ahead of their stay to help them plan ahead.

🧭They explored...."Great beaches at St Cyrus and Lunan bay, plenty of local walks along the North Esk River and up to the Kirktonhill Tower with stunning views".

☺️They relaxed..."The Hot tub was fabulous after a days exploring, and the Chesney BBQ was great and easy to use. We ate at the Marykirk hotel which was very friendly, food was excellent and very reasonable"
